Hofner Verythin Special (Made in Germany)

Post by electrofaro »

Anyone try one of these? I think it looks great... too bad I couldn't make it to the Musikmesse this year to try one (was too tired so decided to stay at home). It looks awesome with the two sounds holes. It makes me want to redo my two soundhole rickie image to place the knobs in a similar way...

I've played a few at Elderly a number of years ago. They played nice but I just couldn't get past that huge headstock. I can't recall where they were made at that time.

I think that is a Hofner confusion thing Ken i think they make a few different bass models in different countries.Im still confused as to what models are made where etc.It is worth bearing in mind that Hofner has been in China for many years, and has a long-term lease on a Chinese production plant that it runs in Beijing, where quality control checks are made prior to these guitar bodies being shipped to Germany, and where Hofner makes violins, violas, cellos and upright basses under the "Alfred Stingl by Hofner" label. They have done a huge amount of work developing the plant and training the staff, often in Germany. The Chinese plant is one of only a handful to have received both a grade A production certificate and a grade A export certificate from the government.
I did a little digging and the basses seem the same.

CT violin bass/CT Club bass/CT Verythin bass - built in China.
Ignition/Icon violin bass/Ignition Icon Club bass - built in Indonesia.
Different instruments built in different shops in different countries.

and im still confused
Anyway werner i did like the one i played it felt fine to me.....Mind you i do play Liquorice

Try before you buy....

Scott your link above states "Hand made in Germany". If I recall correctly the ones I played sported a satin finish but I may very well be wrong on that feature. I went to the Elderly website and there are none in stock, but they have a couple Club guitars including a used John Lennon.

The CT series are all made in china and the hardware is then shipped back to GER.Hofner is having bodies and necks built in China and then taking the components to Hagenau for hardware installation and setup.Yeah i had to look for a while i think they are labeled Made in Germany where i think the term should be like the The duesenbergs "assembled in germany" not "made in germany".

Still confused i am too

The CTs are made in China, like the Verythin, but the Verythin Special apparently build fully in Germany. There's quite a price difference between the two. I didn't know until yesterday the brand's owned by a guy from England!

yeah, i can confirm these are made in Germany. This is the new series, the older ones had gold hardware and fancy flame maple backs and cost twice as much. these have simpler appointments and are coming on the market much cheaper. I've been scoping them for a long time.
