What can I say...he's totally Williamsburg.
Re: A LONG TIME AGO, IN A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY...
I'm curious why you opted for a 1/2" spacing.
The 1" spacing is the only thing I don't like about my Shadow, but I'm not going to mess with an otherwise original rare Ric.

Well, like you, Ilan, I prefer the 1/2" spacing, but in this case I could choose, so I went with it.
It's "Shadow-inspired", not a "Shadow Replica".
Is your Shadow routed for 1/2" as my body was (from the factory)? If so, all you'd be changing would be the guard...and that's reversible.

And Pickguardian can make the perfect replacement guard for a reasonable price, so you can always switch back to the original guard if you so desire.jingle_jangle wrote:Well, like you, Ilan, I prefer the 1/2" spacing, but in this case I could choose, so I went with it.

I'll check but I think it's not routed for both spacings. I thought that only 1975's were routed for both.

I'm only studying for anorak certification, Ilan. Ya got me there.

I've got a 2010 4003 that came routed for both...ilan wrote:I'll check but I think it's not routed for both spacings. I thought that only 1975's were routed for both.
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: A LONG TIME AGO, IN A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY...
That's interesting... And since they are CNC routed, is it possible that ALL 4003's are routed for both spacings now? If that's the case, it's very good news. I don't know anything about woodwork and CNC, but could it be that RIC are using the same routing pattern for C64's and 4003's to make production more efficient?

Are you 100% certain? (i.e. have you tried installing a 1/2''-spaced pickup?) I know they're bigger than they need to be for 1'' but I don't think they'll actually accommodate 1/2'' spacing.cjj wrote:I've got a 2010 4003 that came routed for both...ilan wrote:I'll check but I think it's not routed for both spacings. My 1976 had to be routed just a tiny amount to accommodate 1/2'' spacing and the new 4003 neck pocket looks about the same size to my eyes.
Re: A LONG TIME AGO, IN A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY...
Absolutely. Compared to my '08 fretless, the route goes MUCH further, almost to the edge of the pickguard. In fact, on one corner, they routed just a bit too far and if you look closely, you can actually see that the route extends beyond the edge of the pickguard...cassius987 wrote:Are you 100% certain? Whoa! I'm going to have to check this on my June 2010 MG (that replaced a thick-necked January 2009 MG under warranty, remember those CJ?)... I don't think it is like that under the hood.cjj wrote:Absolutely. Compared to my '08 fretless, the route goes MUCH further, almost to the edge of the pickguard.
