Just wanted too say hi. I just purchased a new Ric 360 and was wondering what string brand and gauge are the preferred choice. Mine was installed with D' Addario Lights.

John: Welcome the RickResource Forum. You will get a number of suggestions. My favourite is still the RIC Compressed Round Wound set 10-42 but so much depends on your own personal preference. I have used many different types typically 10-46 whether it be D'Addarios, GHS Nickel Rockers, SIT Silencers, Curt Mangan, Ernie Ball and so forth, all with success.

Thanks Peter.
Re: New to this forum
Sorry Peter, from the RIC branded strings I just received, to the updated string gauge guide in Ric's online manual, it looks like they've switched to 10-46. For both six and twelve string guitars. Maybe it's a change in suppliers? The strings don't seem as compressed as the old ones either; they feel a little closer to round wound. I haven't put the new strings on yet so I don't know if my guitar will need any adjustments. I hope they sound as good as the old ones.admin wrote:My favourite is still the RIC Compressed Round Wound set 10-42...

Welcome John.
I tried looking at the RIC website and I am getting errors in the boutique section. You are correct about the new owners manual showing 10-46. The old manual stated "95403 Full Scale Six String Guitars Compressed Round Wound 10-13-17-26-34-42". Unfortunately I can't get the string page to open to see if these are now deleted. RIC does have some strings in their close-out section so you may find the 95403 set there.Clint wrote:Sorry Peter, from the RIC branded strings I just received, to the updated string gauge guide in Ric's online manual, it looks like they've switched to 10-46. It's really no big deal. The strings are for my 12 string and I had been toying with the idea of going up to .046 anyway.
Oh, by the way John, sorry about hijacking your thread. I'm sure your Ric will take any string set you prefer.

Welcome John! I'd recommend a favorite string but I only use 4 and they are a lot fatter.

The RIC boutique is still showing the 95403 set (10-42) available. http://www.rickenbacker.com/cart.asp?vi ... ry=Strings

Re: New to this forum
As I say my most recent sets have been 10-46. More recently I have grown to prefer the slightler heavier string at the bottom end. The GHS Nickel Rockers have a similar feel to the RIC sets.

I like a little more meat. For me, the six-string set of choice is the D'Addario XL 11-49 w/ wound 3rd G string set. Because of the shallow break over the bridge to the tailpiece, to me there is not a significant amount more tension than any 10's set (but then again, I do play primarily bass), but I get much better tone and sustain with the slightly added mass of this balanced set.
I understand TI has a nickel flats set in 11's you can order through Pick-of-the-Ricks. I'd use it, but my hand perspiration eats pure nickel.
So if you like the feel of 10's, it's all been covered above. Any reputable set of 10's, from the factory set on over, will do well. Getting a set with a wound 3rd is a plus so the G string isn't always trying to pull sharp. But to me all guitars, and especially tailpiece guitars with a shallow break angle, benefit from the slightly added downward force on the bridge that an 11's set has to offer.

Yes, I love the GHS Nickel Rockers. I've often wondered if these are what the RIC branded strings actually were. I like the SIT Strings I've tried, too.admin wrote:As I say my most recent sets have been 10-46. More recently I have grown to prefer the slightler heavier string at the bottom end.
