I almost did it to a 2030-5 ... it was white and I thought about doing a Union Jack paint job ... but it is gone ... but there is a white 2030 on ebay right now ...
If you are comfortable doing soldering, wiring, etc. the v/v/t mod is not too difficult. Basically, follow the schematics for a Jazz Bass. On my 4004Cii I wanted all the controls evenly spaced so I did a bit of routing to the control cavity. I needed to do this on account of the large mil-spec Clarostat conductive plastic pots I used.
yep non Rickenbacker toasters ... I picked up a few for my own use before Ric shut down the guy selling them ... they will probably resurface without the slotted top ... anyway they are scatterwound and hotter, and louder and have stronger magnets ... they are also slightly larger than a real toaster ... I like the way they sound ... I had to remove a little wood to make it fit in my 4004L5 ...
Jaymi, that's a refinished '81 P Special, isn't it? what was it, CAR? LPB? white? they weigh a ton but that's the only active bass that I like. Best preamp ever IMHO. I have a NOS '81 PCB and I was thinking about installing it in a project 4000 some day.
At The Farm, Chapel Point, Lincolnshire UK Saturday night. Chapel Point is about as pleasant as Barrow Point Alaska, although they do get quite a few "names" in. It's about 6 miles from Skegness (a name that'll make my fellow brits chuckle) and about 3 light years from civilisation. Playing - with far too much concentration (why don't I ever smile in these pix?) - my '79 4001 shed "Rosie"; she's an old slapper but I love her.
