Schematic wiring for Ric Humbuckers

Post by Oskar »

I just picked up a Ric that had a pair of Ric humbuckers installed, but it appears they were not installed correctly. I'm looking for a simpleton's schematic, e.g. picture of pickups, pots and colored leads that can guide me to rewiring this. The only thing the Ric site has is the John Kay schematic, but from what I understand that guitar has some phase switches added. I just want to use the 5 basic Ric controls with these pickups. The extra wiring from the humbuckers is what's throwing me off. Would be most appreciate of any guidance. If it's easier a schematic can be sent to me via e-mail. Thanks.

It's not a 481 is it? (Stock phase reversal switch from the factory)

Use this along with the schematic for your guitar model.

I don't think so. The guy I got the guitar from said he replaced the original pickups with Ric Humbuckers. Here's a description of them:

Both pickups have the following wires:

Black, White, Red, Green, and bundled bare wires. Both are stamped "Rickenbacker" on the bottom with this number: IC0056. The neck pickup is marked (with pen) "HB1" and "OK Cris"
No pen markings on the neck pickup. The volume pots were replaced with 500Ks. I have the originals.

Here's a photo of the guitar.

That's a nice model 610! :)

The control circuit for that maodel is here:

http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/19511.pdf

Unfortunately, I don't know what wires on the pickup go where ... the circuit for the 650 models (which have humbuckers) is a four-control circuit, plus there is nothing specific with the humbucker wiring indicated:

http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/19501.pdf

There are only two wires shown for the pickup, one of which is ground (shield), whereas the humbucker schematic shows two wires plus ground (shield).

I saw that, but there's no blue wire on the pickups I have. Here's a photo of the wiring. Looks a bit messy to me.

Can i just revive this thread to ask how to reverse the phase on the HB-1? My HB-1 is out of phase with my Higain, so i need to switch it if i want them to blend.

I looked at the schematic but i'm not big on electronics. Do i need to swap the two south connections for two north connections?

e.g. according to this schematic (http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/19521-HB1%20Wiring.pdf) i join red and blue, black becomes the active and clear becomes the shield?

Just reverse the red and green wires on the back of the pots.

The HB's look like they're wired correctly to me. What makes you think there is a problem? I'm about to replace the stock toasters in a 660 with HB1's and will be replacing all of the original electronics using 500K tone and blend pots, 500K push-pull volume controls as coil taps, and .027uF Ajax Big Blues for tone caps.

okay, who's talking to who? this is all confusing. i just want to know how to reverse the phase on an HB1 because it's out of phase with the higain i'm pairing it with. i'll start a new thread.
