Hello, my name is Brandon. I am 18, live in Toronto, and am ready to make some beautiful sounding music! I am looking for a Rickenbacker 360/12 WB. I posted here several months ago, but did not have enough money to afford such an instrument, but now that I've got a band that plays paying gigs, I can get a Ric now. I saw one on ebay, but its a bit out of my price range, I'm looking for more like $2000.
Preferred colours are Jetglo, Mapleglo, and Fireglo, but then again a Ric looks good in almost any colour. Its not too big a deal I suppose.
Not looking to close a deal immediately, but probably sometime in the next week or so.

A 12 string WB model might be very hard to find, especially in your price range.

You are either going to have to go vintage, a 12V64 or a 12C63 for a WB model, I think.

Another option is to find a 330/12 and send it out for the double binding.

nah.....just be very patient, Brandon! One will turn up in that price range, eventually....keep scouring Craigslist daily, that's your best bet to score something cheaper.

craigslist is good, but unless its a hidden option I cant find, then you can only search one area at a time and to search lots of locations would take forever. I saw a nice one on ebay for $2100 that I would have bought had I had the money. Well, at least I am known in my family for my patience

The problem with Craigslist is that many CL sellers want an in-person transaction. So if the seller is not local to you, there may be no deal even (especially?) where the price is attractive.

There are 360/12V64s coming up on ebay all the time, with a number that have gone for $2200 or less. I don't think you'd have to wait too long to get a decent one.

I tried Claz, came up with nothing. I guess I'll just scour CL, eBay, or wait for a personal offer, since it looks as though these guitars are relatively rare

There is a $1400 FG 330 in London Ont for example right now... Not a 12 string but a good starter RIC

Also go to Long and McQuades (Toronto, Cambridge Burlington) or LA Music in Mississauga both of which usually have RICs hanging on the wall. LA Music has this JG 330 12 for example for 2K cdn. Try them out first before you buy - not everyone is comfortable playing an electric 12 string. You might find a 6 string a better first Rickenbacker

Hi Brandon:

While you have a pretty good chance of finding a used 360/12 in Ontario on craigslist or Kijiji at some point over the next ~6 months, the odds of finding a double-bound one are a lot lower. Likewise, the odds are against finding a new double-bound 360/12 at a Canadian retailer -- places like Long & McQuade tend to only have a handful of new Ricks in stock at any given time.

If you're determined to have a WB, I think you're going to have to expand your search and look in the US. For instance, Pick of the Ricks (Lindenwold, NJ, outside Philadelphia) has a new 360/12c63 listed on its website right now. They can't post the price (RIC rules) so it may be out of your range, but you can e-mail Chris and find out. The cost of shipping to Canada isn't bad -- I recently bought a 620/12 from Chris and the shipping quote to Toronto was only around $65, although I ended up picking up the guitar in person since I was going to Philadelphia anyway. You'd have to pay HST, but you'll also get the benefit of having Chris -- a very skilled guitar tech -- set it up for you. His setup job on my 620/12 was fantastic.

If you're prepared to do without the double binding, Chris currently has a used 370/12 listed for under $2000.

Im prepared to buy from the states. I mainly wnat the double bound version becuase of it's 330 like body shape. So sexy! I have only once seen a Ric in canada in cosmo music, but it was snatched up the very next day. Supply in stores around here are very scarce.

No question the double-bound 360s look great, but they're especially hard to find and tend to be pricy. The list price on a new 360/12c63 is $3839 US, and while the street price might be a bit less it'll very likely still be way over your $2000 price limit. And it's not like the non-double bound Rick models are exactly bad-looking themselves ...

Given your budget and the fact that you're looking to get your hands on a new guitar fairly soon I think you'd be best off looking for something a little less rare. In addition to the 330/12 and 360/12, I'd urge you to also consider the 620/12, which is a bit less expensive than the semi-hollowbodies but is nevertheless a great-looking and great-sounding guitar in its own right. (Disclaimer: I bought both a 620-6 and -12 in the last 6 months and couldn't be happier with them).

Well, the thing is I kinda got my heart set on a double bound 360/12. I agree, the single bound looks nice too, but I think the the sharper look of the double bound suits me better when I'm on stage. Plus, I would like to experiment with the ROS. I saw an ad up on ebay for $2100 or something just a little while ago, but I wasn't ready to actually purchase at the time, unfortunately
