Anybody else do this?
I am cheap and don't want spend $20 per guitar for strap locks. So I bought a 4 pack of Grolsch beer, the ones with the red grommet on the swing top and use that on the outside of my strap as a poor mans strap lock. I read about it in a guitar mag some months back. I think the guy from Porcupine Tree did it, Steve Wilson. It is a win win. You get to drink a beer and get a strap lock all in one.

But... but... it's GROLSH!!!

Grolsch is not that bad. It is better than a bud. My fav is Anchor Steam or I just recently started drinking Two Hearted Ale from Michigan somewhere.

Yes I did this, enjoyed the beer, but still bought the straplocks. I gave the rubber stoppers to my guitar player for his Les Paul. He thought I was joking at first, then he saw a photo of John Mayer using the Grolsh method.

The Grolsh method has been the frugal player's straplocks for many years!
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!

As long as your strap hole is not to warn out it will hold. I sat down with my guitars and basses on when I first started using them to test it out, and tugged the hell out of the strap and it held. I am not saying it is perfect but it will hold and it is an easy thing to carry in your case or pocket.

This thread is meaningless without pics!

Right here in the Zoo! Good stuff. Almost as good as Oberon.08 Ric 4003 wrote:... I just recently started drinking Two Hearted Ale from Michigan somewhere.

Re: Anybody else do this?
I already use sheet metal bolts for straplocks. I guess I'll just have to find another reason to drink the beer.

Always worked for me...

Re: Anybody else do this?
That will work to. I like to grommets cause you don't have to do anything but put it over your strap and most guitars come with the same style strap buttons. I usually unscrew all my strap buttons and then put a drop of wood glue in the hole and then screw the strap button back on and it should never ever unscrew. I know people say "I have a two thousand dollar guitar what is the big deal about spending an extra 20 on a strap lock to protect my investment"? The grommets work and your guitar stays stock. My strap has never come off using the grommets. If you really need to jump around that much when you play then I guess you need the more expensive ones. Dunlop makes plastic ones that twist that are cheap too. They untwist in a second and stay twisted until you untwist them. I have two different styles of those and they work great too.

You need a reason to drink beer?
Re: Anybody else do this?
Unfortunately, my beer doesn't come with Grolsch rubber washers. Grolsch is a decent beer, but mine's better...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Is it home brew. I love home brew. I have had some good and some bad, but it is always better that a bud wiper.
