Keywinds
I am curious about your opinions regarding the tuners available for 6 and 12 string guitars. I have a early mid-nineties 330 with grovers and I really like them. I have to say I think I like them somewhat more than the Schallers on my newer models. Not really knowing much of anything regarding the technical aspect, I am wondering also if anyone can tell me what the ratio on the newer Schallers as opposed to the ratio on the Grovers I mentioned. I think that maybe it is the ratio I like on the Grovers. Thoughts?

Re: Keywinds
Any idea what the ratio on the Grovers are?
Is the consensus that the Schallers are more to people's liking or how about the Grovers?
Sorry, I am just a bit clueless about these...

It depends which Grovers you have. Maybe you can find them here: http://grotro.com/

Re: Keywinds
The sealed Grovers and Grover Minis are good tuners. I personally prefer the look of Schaller Minis on Ricks, and also use Gotoh and Schaller Vintage style tuners.
For experimental purposes, I set up of my 425s with Ping (Chinese) vintage Kluson copies. These were getting a bad rap, but they're working out just fine for me. And I use Grover open-backs on some acoustics for a vintage look. They are also OEM on '50s Combos. RIC sells these as "Ric-O-Matic" tuners; excellent look and quality, though I don't know who makes them for RIC.

Wow. Lots of possibilities. I thinking the old Grovers may be 18:1. I haven't really tried the Klusons but I will keep my eye out when I go up to Sam Ash next time. They are the older ones with the rectangular covers, right?ken_j wrote:It depends which Grovers you have. Maybe you can find them here: http://grotro.com/

Re: Keywinds
I prefer the schallers, they seem smaller and lighter, better suited for a Rickenbacker headstock especially a 12, my Rick 12 has Grover minis and they still bump against each other and very heavy
