Have you tried Elixer strings

Just wanted to share, I have recently tried the Elixer strings with nanoweb technology (Nanoweb fancy name huh...lol) Yet I saw a vid of John Paul Jones discussing them as he switched from Roto sound to the elixer brand. I really like em they are slippery to the touch, your fingers don't hang up. Like well at least mine do at times whilst playing (from friction). They have great tone and not really too pricey at 45 bucks. they are supposed to last a very long time too.

Well, Gore-Tex is actually made from expanded polytetrafluoroethylene, sometimes called PTFE.Teflon is a registered trademark for DuPont's PTFE products...

I've been using Elixers on my 4003 for a few months now. They still sound great and I have a set on another bass that have been on close to a year and they still sound and play great.

I've been using Elixers for at least 5 years now. Love 'em. Great tone, and they play like greased lightning!

I prefer the 45-65-85-105 set, but they require a strong neck. My less strong necks get the 40-60-80-100 set.

Sure, they cost twice as much as regular RW strings, but they last more than twice as long. I've had some sets on for over 2 years. They're also good for collectors because they won't corrode while your bass is hibernating.

So...Are you saying that Elixers are D'Addarios beneath that buttery coating?

D'Addario has their own coated strings as well. D'Addario is one of only a few actual string manufacturers in North America. They make strings for several other brands of strings that really just repackage them.

Just remember that most of the raw wire that the string companies use to make their strings all comes from Mapes.

but we also should remember that it is what you do with that wire... two blocks of marble from the same quarry; one given to me the other to Michelangelo would produce drastically different results - mine being used as fill or to prop open a barn door.

I wish that were true, as Mapes is certainly one of the best and American. Unfortunately, I think you'll find that many of the string factories are now using Chinese-sourced wire. (Never mind that many so-called "American brands" are actually produced in Mexico now.)
