I saw the Flaming Lips Friday night. It was an incredible visual show. A really great time.

They just came to Richmond, Va but I had to miss them. Had a prior commitment. I have a bunch of there stuff and the live DVD. I hear they drop a lot of Acid and the music shows.

I think the acid is in their past. When you go to a show, they are there very early so, if you're waiting on the GA line you'll get to chat with them. Unlikely they're on drugs.

I love it when artists are there for their fans. I have met a lot of artists at shows. It is easier when you are at a small club. At a huge venue unless you are invited to the meet and greet you will only see them play.

Last year when they played Terminal 5 in NYC we arrived at 9AM to be first on line. They arrived a few minutes after. Wayne and Kliph came out to keep us company from time to time. It's pretty cool that they feel that close to their audience.

The Flaming Lips are surely tight with their fans. I also liked that members of the band spent a lot of time watching the opening bands. You don't see that everyday.

Somewhere in the 90's the Flaming Lips changed their music style. My wife and my sister saw the Lips at a show in Tallahassee in 1987 or so, and both reported to me that it was terrible. Thus, I did not pay much attention to the band until two or three years ago when I saw them on Austin City Limits. I thought, wow, that's a good band (even though they had no Rickenbacker in that performance).

I think that showing appreciation to the folks that come to see them has taken them a long way.

I think he sometimes played a Ric earlier in their career - I'm sure there's a few clips of him playing one in the Fearless Freaks documentary (a great watch by the way). It's been a while since I watched it so I'm not sure when exactly, possibly late 80s/early 90s.
