Ric's Prices

Post by 08 Ric 4003 »

Why is Ric so secretive about there prices? Every time I look at a Ric on a stores site that carries them, you have to call or e-mail for the price. I was on a web site and I added a Ric 360 to the cart and the price came up, I guess problem solved. Obviously if I go into a store and I show up with cash in hand the price may change.

RIC publishes the US RRP for all models here. No secrecy there!

As I understand it, its agreements with dealers prevents them from publishing their price if it varies from RRP. This means you have to contact dealers to find the best street price.

This is not limited to Ric's. Just about everything from cameras to shoes have some sort of retailer contract that specifies a MAP (minimum advertised price). Then you will see something like 'call for price', 'email for better price', 'add to cart for best price', etc., etc. That way, the dealer can sell it at whatever more competitive price makes sense to them.

Just don't confuse our policy with MAP, which we think is an outrageous, anti-consumer policy. We have absolutely no problem with our dealers selling at any price they are comfortable with . . . but we want the customer to be in contact with the dealer in order to get it. Search engines that arrange the lowest online prices are fine for commodity goods but the worst way in the world to buy anything that should have personal service, such as personalized setup, as part of the deal.

I think this policy works out for a lot of us in that there are good prices to be found out there, but on the other hand a lot of people assume that one dealer's high price is everyone's high price and I have seen some pretty bad mis-info about the price of a new Ric numerous times.

Then it is our job to educate as we come across these misconceptions. Besides, RIC can't make 'em fast enough as it is.

Trust me John, I have tried, and I think I am done with attempting to educate or share experience. Somehow it just gets me called a fanboy every time.

I wasn't suggesting the policy should be changed either. It's probably fine like it is.

I've seen them call you that over on TB. Some just do NOT want to hear the truth. Stops them from grinding their axe......
