PYTHON STRAP on your Rickenbacker?

Post by greg_feo »

Vintage, or not?

Does anyone here use them (other than 'Tributes') for your ' Rickenbacker's ?

I like them, and the fact they are what they are...sturdy ...different... scarce .

Any thoughts? thanks in advance ...

I read that some thought they were heavy.

I keep one with my '67 330 but I have not had the opportunity to really use it. :(

I use one...very comfortable leather strap. The width makes it very comfortable for both guitar and bass. Just be careful taking off your instrument so that the studs or scales don't leave a mark on the finish.

I used to own a strap that was gold leather, with python like alternating black and silver python "shingles." I bought it for what was a good bit of change back in the late 60s -- I think it was tossed in the trash years ago because the leather was cracked and the scales were coming loose with some missing...

Anybody see one these before and know if it was a Vox strap?

I would buy one just for collectors purposes, along with a modded 325C58.

it's bit too long...i have one from POTR -i i got it for 660/12 but that was just bad idea so i have been using it with double cutaway tele shaped body instead - there it works just fine. and yes it is on heavy side among the straps

Yep, I have used one for many years on my '67 330 FG. It's really beat up and tarnished (as they all are, they tarnish if you look at them wrong).
From 2002.
From 2002.
I've never even seen a vintage one. They must have only made 17 of them or something back in the day.

When these were first reissued in the '90s, I got one only to find that it was was too damn short to be practical, so I sold it. They then reissued it again at a longer length, which was much more practical if you have wider shoulders than John Lennon, as I do.

I had Pythons (reissues) on my c64 and 1996RIs when I had them. I liked them strictly for the Beatle vibe--IMHO, they're really not that great a strap in practical terms.

As posted, they are heavy, which I'd think wouldn't necessarily be an asset for a gigging musician, and they're also one heck of a ding-maker if you're more concerned about keeping a guitar pristine.

I do like Lennon's original idea, a snake-skin looking strap; just don't think Vox's solution was necessarily the best idea.

I have one of each version they reissued, the second is more useful, much longer.
