Why was model 610 discontinued?

Post by Chris82 »

Why did it go away? Mr. Hall, could you shed a little light on this? Was it just not as popular as the 620?

Thanks, Chris

It was just to streamline production, most folks pay the extra for the deluxe features so It (sadly) just made good sense.
Its the same reason why the 4003s also finished up. (for now at least)
I like the 610, One day I'd like to get a 610/12

I thought the reason was that the 650 (a dot neck, unbound, cresting wave solid body) made the 610 redundant.

It's funny, I've always used a small "s" ..
I wonder if thats why my 4003S sounds just the same as many 4003s...

Sorry, that may be just a bit too lateral, but I am on nightshift......

That would be my guess, too, though there was somewhat of an overlap:

610 produced from about 1986 to 1999.

650D and 650S models produced from about 1992 to 2007.

650C still in production -- same MSRP as a 620.

Thanks, Chris

Because it didn't sell.

It was discontinued in a period when Rics weren't nearly as popular as now.

A friend of mine bought a brand new 610/12 at Guitar Center in 1994 for around $500, IIRC as it had been sitting a long while.

I know how you feel, Eden...I get the nightshifts, too, if I eat more than three bowls of chili just before retiring...

Full of sound and fury...

On topic...it's a bit sad about the 610. It went away in the era of grunge--a genre in which it could have excelled.
If it is to be, it is up to me.

I'm more fond of the "S" models so to speak. I think that if you just would buy a new 4003S and put vintage stuff on it, that rick would lose money on their other models.
