Beatles' Songs Using Rickenbacker 12-Strings

Nick, dating these pics definitely puts it around the time of 'Beatles For Sale'/'Beatles VI'--in fact probably from the same session that the back cover shots were taken for 'Beatles VI'--were 'Eight Days A Week' and 'Ticket to Ride' recorded seperately from these sessions? Not having the 'sessions' book in front of me I can't recall....

The 325/12 is a great guitar, it is possible to set it up with enough time put into the job. I good friend of mine sold his '99 reissue 325/12 to Ritchie Sambora on Saturday, Ritchie loves it and wouldn't even bother if it wasn't a great guitar. The last one that I picked up came from Rhoads Music last month and Jim did a great job on the set up, with Pyramids no less.

Eight Days a Week was recorded Tuesday October 6th ,1964;Takes 1-6 in the afternoon and takes 7-13 in the evening

Ticket to Ride was recorded Monday February 15th ,1965;takes 1-2 in the afternoon .There was no more recording .Take two was the master !

All info via the Sessions book by Mark Lewisohn.

Yeah, they are great guitars.
I have one of the earliest known, from the fist reissues of the 325/12 in 1985-86. (Technically 320/12v63) I have never had a tuning or intonation problem with it. I've played 3 other 325/12's over the years and they are all wonderfull. I don't know why they've got a bad rep for intonation. Actually, its better than my 360/12 in that area.
Also, as I've posted here before, they don't sound very different from its bigger 12 string brothers, so I've found it very difficult to find just exactly which, if any songs, John used it on in the studio. But now with pictures, we can guess at least "Every Little Thing".
Nick, I'd love to see the shot of it from the White Album!

It's actually a picture of Tom Hartman holding it. His band was recording a Abbey Road at the time and they snuck in and rolled around in the equipment locker. They all took pictures of each other holding the guitars, drum heads, etc... The picture was posted over on Vox Talks a few months ago.

One of the things I've been looking at on John's 325/12 is that it looks like the strings were never changed. The shot Mr. Hall took of it before it left the factory clearly shows the red silk ends on the strings. Photos of the 325/12 today show it still has remnents of red near the tuners. I just wonder if there is any way to know if its the same strings after 35 years?

Does Mark Lewisohn say that a 12-string was used on either Ticket to Ride or A Hard Days'Night?
There probably is no twelve string guitar! We were probably all fooled by the movie (AHDN)!

Just something that I thought should be mentioned. It says that the first RIC 12 string song was recorded on January 29, 1964, but the boys recieved their guitars after arriving on Febuary 7, 1964. Am I missing something?

CBML was "mostly" recorded on 29 Jan 64

They played Ed Sullivan on 9 Feb 64

John Hall presented the 360/12 on 8 Feb 64

On 25 Feb 64, they over dubbed the 12 string lead to CBML. If you listen closely, I think you can hear the original lead way back in the mix.

Make that F.C. Hall presented the guitar ....John was sort of 14 years old I believe.

School was not out at that time .
