I think they broke up around the early to mid-nineties.

Ricks have a great lead tone either clean or distorted.

I don't know who was playing, but here's a nice Capri 325.

Yes, but I'm talking about stereotypes developed by the general population who read on the back of the album jacket: John Lennon/Rhythm Guitar. I doubt before the Beatles anybody said "A Rickenbacker is only good for rhythm" and when you think about it, John Lennon was really the first prominent ELECTRIC rhythm guitarist. Before the Beatles people didn't typically strum open chords on electric guitars. By the old standard, the fact that it was electric made it a "lead guitar" just by design.

I can't believe nobody mentioned Peter Buck's solos on his live versions of "Talk About the Passion." He used to do it with his Jetglo 360/6 in the early to mid 80's. (And there's a nice 12-string version from a show in Raleigh, NC on You Tube.)

As an additional note, Joey, Rich, and I are playing some heavy numbers on Ricks for a 4th of July block party in a set list that includes. KISS, Blue Oyster Cult, Cheap Trick, and Alice In Chains, among others. At rehearsal last weekend, Joey thought I nailed the Alice in Chains tone with "Big Red" quite effectively, though (full disclaimer) I was primarily using my Sérgio Silva-made, 14K overwound coil bridge toaster p/up; it sounds great, whether I'm playing it straight through the amp, using a Red Dyanacomp (Thanks again, Jake), "Sparkle Drive," "Tube Screamer," "Daddy-O, " or any combination of these together. 8)
