Would this be possible on a 620?

Post by Low End Lover »

Hey Rickers,

I have this idea for a 620 in a 330 style, i.e. no binding and dot inlays. I know the Ric factory could make this and just not add binding, but given their backlog, I cannot see it being possible. Is there a way to remove the binding and make it look as if it wasn't there? I am kind of doubting it since they probably rout the body and neck to set the binding, but I am no expert on guitar building, so I am just making a guess.
Also, if you were going to get a guitar you planned to have refinised, is it easiser to go MapleGlo or is it all the same as even that has to be stripped down to bare wood?
I would appreciate any knowledgable opinions on this.

Thanks for your time,

LEL (Jason)

What you're describing is a 610. They're not currently made but easy enough to find used. You could also check out the current model 650.

Yes a 610 is what you want. They were made between 1985 and 1996.

I have one from January 1991.

610 is the name of this model. In 1964, the 610 was being offered in the UK by Rose Morris as model 1995. Unlike the hollowbodies, the 610 and 1995 were hard to distinguish from each other.

Thanks for the replys. On the one hand,I feel silly as I love Rics enough I should have know this = On the other hand, this will make what I want to do to it a lot more affordable = :D
What can you all tell me about their availability and average price? Any years better than others? What I want to do is have one finished in white with a black pickguard and Black TRC with white lettering. Do those already exist?

Thanks,

LEL (Jason)

EDIT: Yes they do, but with BT BH. I was actually hoping for the tailpiece and tuners in regular chrome. I would think this would be easy to swap out as black stuff is less common?

I could have bought a '91 Red 610 BT for $600 at a Guitar Center in Houston 5 years ago...I'm still kicking myself for not buying that one... :(

Oh, that's a drag. I actually just posted a WTB in the Marketplace for a 610/6, hopefully a white one. If you've got one to sell PM or post there.

Now that we know what you are looking for, we'll keep an eye out and let you know if we spot one. :)

I had a 610 Ruby myself, and I remember seeing a 610/12 Silver for sale at one time, so I would think that a 610 White is not an impossibility.

I have seen white ones. If I recall correctly Melibee has a white 610 or 615.

Times like these, I long for my old '91 610/12 FG.

But I get over it pretty quickly. :D
