just_bassics wrote:Thanks for the reference, never heard that story in all my reading of Yes material, although I did hear it joked about quite a bit. But, Wikipedia??? Sorry, that site is not my first or last source on anything, although nice for some general info, I'd never quote that site myself. Just me... :)
Well, yeah. Wikipedia isn't always the most accurate source of info for sure. But they do state a couple of other references related to what is written there. Now, I haven't followed up on those references myself, so I have no idea as to the veracity of them either. But, you wanted a reference, so, there's one. Figuring out if it's true or not is way more than I care about...

 Yea, so long ago. Newer things on the horizon, with Roger Dean's work to boot.

Silent wings, while not my favorite track on Tormato, is about as close to free form playing that Yes ever got on a studio record, and Chris' parts are wonderful. There's that Yesyears clips where they all stop playing and Chris seems disappointed, saying "I thought it was going well, actually" or words to that effect... With Eddie Offord producing, Tormato would have been spectacular. So, where was Eddie? (Don't answer, I think I already know. )

I liked Tormato, but was not a big fan of Madrigal and Onward. It was one of my first couple Yes albums. I even got it for about 3 buck in a cutout bin.

I’ve always liked Tormato. It was different and I thought had a very raw feel to it. I never really understood the cover art… waste of a good tomato. But I do like the tunes and the few I have heard live are just as wonderful as one might expect from these masterful guys!

This is Yes Tor on Dartmoor Devon England...............
Pity Yes couldnt make it up there because its beautiful country.
I think the biggest disappointment of the Tormato album is that the band couldnt make it to Yes Tor for real and were superimposed over photos of the tor.
We played in Tavistock the previous night and still managed the two hour hike to the top the following morning after leaving our van full of gear outside the Okehampton army camp below.
(With instructions to the guard on gate duty to shoot on sight anyone running off with my Rickenbacker of course.)
