Re: 4001 or 4003?
You are correct, Mario. Definitely a 4003.

Re: 4001 or 4003?
I'm not an expert but, I agree based on the screw holes. Looks like a two piece pickguard was on there
Re: 4001 or 4003?
Yes, an early 4003. You can easily tell by the two parallel slots on the headstock...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

I prefer 4003's made post Sept 1, '84 that have truss rod adjustments at the headstock and the newer, the better. Just my own humble opinion.MiroN wrote:What is your opinion?
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!

Re: 4001 or 4003?
the trussrods on there are just like the ones from the 4001 only that they adjust at the body..the aluminum block is larger but you do it the same...I have had a couple of these...I don't like them either..these were the earliest attempts(starting in 1980) for the 4003...it was much better when the adjusters were moved back to the headstock in 1986. although, the 85 basses had a more modified system which did away with the long alum block. I would play those....

This is what both ends look like on my '84 4003:

Re: 4001 or 4003?
I have all the pieces in order to restore this bass
and pieces are all black trim.
I miss only the black tuners.
What do you say?
This Bass was equipped with Grover Tuners Machine , are there black?

Re: 4001 or 4003?
I'm not sure if there are black pieces that fit it exactly but that bass originally had chrome tuners going by the Registry images.
I'd love to find the precise black tuners for my 4003S/5 but Schaller don't make the same hole alignment for that one anymore. All they seem to make is the drop down bit for the screw where mine is 90° offset from those.

Re: 4001 or 4003?
Not that I know of. Hipshot HB5s come in black, and they have the same footprint as the Rickenbacker Schallers, so they will fit the post holes and headstock fine but you will need to drill new screw holes. I believe the Gotoh GB1s will also fit given the 12mm diameter post. Both these tuners should cover up the screw holes for the Grovers.MiroN wrote:I have all the pieces in order to restore this bass

Re: 4001 or 4003?
Scott - were they M4 2000 tuners? Schaller has two different mounting screw variations available on their web-site one at 90 degree rotation to the other....Tarrbot wrote:I'm not sure if there are black pieces that fit it exactly but that bass originally had chrome tuners going by the Registry images.
