Glastonbury Rickenbacker watch......

Post by fireglo67 »

Post your Glastonbury Rickenbacker sightings here.

Day one:
So far only 2 Rics spotted at this years Glastonbury festival. Both played by Dave Evans of U2, who I have to say were absolutely awful.

Lots of new, young, indie guitar bands playing this year, and so far not a Rickenbacker in sight. Fender seems to be the guitar of choice. Also lots of acoustic guitars on show too, but there's more chance of seeing Ricky Nelson onstage than seeing anyone playing a Ric acoustic.

More coverage coming up on TV so watch this space..............

I'm curious. I've watched highlight shows of Glastonbury, and usually see them -at least Ric basses.

The 4003 was a band called the Bees, less said about them the better. I think the 620 was The Kills?

We are well into day 2 and that's about it for Rickenbacker sightings so far today.

Yesterdays Fender fest seems to have been replaced today with lots of lovely Gibson and Gretsch guitars. Once again lots of acoustic guitars being played on stage today, with Gibson and Takamine being the guitars of choice.

I spoke to a friend today who is at the festival and she said she was chatting to a one of the BBC production team, and he said he'd thought Rickenbacker had stopped making guitars years ago!

Anyway, we have Coldplay coming up soon, so we may see something there, otherwise we're onto the last day tomorrow.
You never know, maybe Beyonce will come on stage playing a MG 330/6.............

Warpaint had a white 4001 bass...but the music was as weak as a candy floss in a puddle.

On highlights on Sat night, Glasvegas bassist was sporting a black or blue 4003. Could't tell as I was watching it on a ****** hotel tv and the stage lighting was changing every 0.000001 ms.

Yes, I saw that too, a Jetglo 4003. Though one would assume he bought it because it was the only black bass guitar in the shop. Their gloomy dirge is all a bit too contrived for my taste.

On a lighter note, I thought Coldplay were excellent.

Now we're well into day 3, a report will follow later.

When I initially read the title of this forum topic, I thought the subject was a commemorative Glastonbury Rickenbacker wristwatch. . . .

End of day three and I'm sorry to say that I didn't spot a single Rickenbacker guitar on any stage today.
Fender and Gibson guitars were the obvious favourites, with Gretsch seemingly the guitar of choice for players that wanted something a little different.

Overall some great music again today topped off by an excellent show by Beyonce. I'm not a fan, but boy did she own the festival tonight.

This is the Glastonbury Rickenbacker watch for 2011 signing off. ....Tick.......tick.......tick.....
