I just brought a guitar back from the States
I just brought a guitar back from the States
Below is a post i posted elsewhere on the board and thought it may be of interest. Not sure whether I was just lucky but everything went so smoothly. I didnt even have to pay any GST on the guiatr as I was traveling with my family and Customs said i could use the kids GST credits!
After many many years of wanting to buy a Rickenbacker, I recently returned from the States the proud owner of my first Rickenbacker - a 360/12c63.
It is not an understatement to say without this forum and the help of the kind folk from it, I would still be Ric-less.
A few months back on this forum I asked for help on how to buy a Ric from the States and bring it back to Australia.
A big thanks to Ron O’Keefe for putting me on to Wildwood Guitars and all the people who sent private mail confirming that Wildwoods were reliable. Troy Benns from Wildwood Guitars was a champion - he was easy to contact and gave me a great deal. The guitar needed to be in LA on a certain day so I could take it back to Australia and he delivered as promised. Thanks Troy. Also thanks to Josh who offered to go down to the store and give the guitar a once over for me.
I tried to post a few pics but have run into a few troubles. Will try again later.
Thanks again to all who helped out with this purchase.

That's a great story. Not at all untypical around here, but a great story nonetheless.
Congratulations!!!

Congratulations, Andrew. I love these stories.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Congrats!
So despite not travelling TO the states with the Ric, they didn't slap you with any importing ETC ETC taxes/gst on your back at all?!?!
...and the more I hang around here, the more I hear this kind of addiction!gregga41 wrote:homer wrote: I'm at about number 9 now.

Re: I just brought a guitar back from the States
Slave - no taxes at all. I ticked the box declaring i was bringing something in over $1000. When i got to the counter, the officer told me i didnt have to pay anything as i was with my family - i guess you can group your gst allowance when bringing stuff in as a family??? anyway i wasnt arguing. made a good deal even better

Congrats Andrew and take some time to enjoy your new guitar.

Yay! Hope you enjoy playing it. My friend brought a guitar back from Japan, and should have had to pay gst on it, but she slapped a few old stickers on the case and they didn't even ask.
