Good idea because honestly, I've seen some repair and restoration videos on Youtube. Even a novice like myself can tell they are making horrible errors. I'm sure us forum fans will help support and spread the word.jingle_jangle wrote:I've just opened up a YouTube Channel, so that interested humans can see how I do some of my building and restoring.

Re: MY YOU TUBE CHANNEL
Thank you, Paul. I'm enjoying these.
It would be cool to see you restoring a fretboard too.

Re: MY YOU TUBE CHANNEL
Thanks, Brian, but that's far from the entire process...Those videos are all in real time. If I put the whole process of prepping, finishing and painting a Rickenbacker (acoustic or electric) on video, it'd be hours upon hours of sanding punctuated by spraying and buffing activities. Sanding is fully 70% of the time and labor.
I have done a video on sanding, believe it or not, but it covers basics without getting into "feel", which is a big part of it.

"Buffing the Jumbo" has to be one of the greatest video titles ever.

Re: MY YOU TUBE CHANNEL
Tonight I began a nice, substantial restoration project, and the video has just been uploaded to You Tube. I explain in the first 20 seconds or so why it's been so long since my last post--I was waiting for just the right project to come along, and it did, in the form of a unique double-bound 4005.
This will be a multi-part project; I'm thinking eight videos right now, but these things have a way of expanding exponentially...could end up a dozen and a half or even more over the next few months.
The first part is simply an overview of the instrument and the work I anticipate performing, judging from first examination. Then I'll move through disassembly, removing the old finish, prepping, re-plating a few parts, replacing others, testing wiring, refretting, possibly re-doing the fretboard inserts, and so on. I'll have to dowel and re-drill the tuner holes, re-bind, and at the tail end I'll do a video on setting up the restored instrument.
