I had tried to figure out what compound was used for the fumigation but have not been able to nail anything down (other than a list of potential candidates). When my apartment building was fumigated for termites three or four years ago, I removed my instruments from the premises during the process because, in spite of reassurances from the company performing the fumigation that there would be no problems, I was unconvinced that the compounds used for that (sulfuryl fluoride with chloropicrin as an odorant) would not interact with the finishes, and I figured 'better safe than sorry' was the right way. It's unfortunate that the customs people did not give you more information and disclosure prior to the treatment of your shipment.

Yeah, we regular folks are pretty much given the mushroom treatment (kept in the dark and fed on s...) when it comes to customs stuff. I was never told diddly, that is, until they decided I needed to pay about $160 in VAT and customs duty on my rather new AC15c1...which got broken during the crossing. That's the next project, getting that thing fixed. No more PC board amps for me.

It was very wise of you Doc to not trust the fumigators' reassurances!! I would've done the same exact thing.

Well, at least the Ric is looking great now, so that's something to celebrate.

I just acquired a preowned 350v63 and some of the finish has hazy look to it. It may have gotten that way during shipping but it would be the first one to come like that. The neck feels a little sticky as do other parts. A strange thing that happened was i was able to mar the finish in some areas with slight pressure from with the yellow polishing cloth. That never happened before and I was shocked. It is only in the clear part of the finish. I don't really feel comfortable (yet) using ScratchX and Zymol on the entire guitar. The hazy areas cover a fairly large area and include the sides of the body.
