Re: LOTS OF PROJECTS NEARING COMPLETION...
Man, Paul, the amber mapleglo acoustic is fine, very unique guitar, and I don't understand why Olivia's is selling it...should be part of their personal collection.
Will you be presenting Dano with his 360/12 at SCARF? Will you be at SCARF? I'm hoping to cross you off my "Members I Must Meet" list...

Because they are a business and guitars don't pay the bills.

Re: LOTS OF PROJECTS NEARING COMPLETION...
A flurry of activity since April or so...I've finished several more acoustic builds, besides some basses, several '60s 12 strings, a sweet little Combo 950 for my own collection, a Hoffs restoration, an AZ 450S, and a good deal more that I can't recall off the top of my head. A number of Fenders are in the works, too, including a sort of Coodercaster thingie.
I delivered one NS '65 360/12 to Danotron at SCARF. He was very happy with it, and I returned home to finish up Rod MacQuarrie's '66 330/12 that was in process.
You may recall that, about 9 months ago, Rod had acquired this guitar from a member of the New Colony Six (a Chicago garage band that started out in '63 and continues to this day. Google them if you haven't heard of them.). It needed a neck reset and after going around and around about whether or not this should be attempted without removing the back, I did make a couple of attempts and eventually we bit the bullet, removed the back and reset the neck. Rod's main concern was that he absolutely did not want to risk losing the original FG finish, which was one of the finest he'd ever laid eyes on. I reassured him that I could duplicate exactly the old finish, and shot lots of digital on it when I first got it.
Rod decided to use the '66 as a basis for a Harrison-style OS 360/12 buildup, so the body was routed for binding, full-width inlays were poured, and the neck bound to original specs. It also received a refret. We kept the original pickguard, pickups, and most of the original hardware including sand-cast "R" tailpiece and bracket, bridge, and strap pegs. The original double-line Klusons were restored, too. It came together in fairly straightforward fashion, once the clearcoat was buffed.
The body in process in my spray booth a month or so ago. Taken with my iPhone:

These were taken this morning at sunrise, of the completed instrument. Rod visited us last night and left very, very happy, with visions of sugarplums, etc:

Some close-up detail shots:

Tomorrow: Good photos of some of the acoustics that many of you saw at SCARF. Yours, Chuck, Larry, and Ron!

Are those taller-than-normal frets you installed there on Rod's OS ? The frets look great !

Beautiful! Love the case too!

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: LOTS OF PROJECTS NEARING COMPLETION...
Yeah, love that rebuild. Most excellent.

Re: LOTS OF PROJECTS NEARING COMPLETION...
Actually this rebuild almost didn't happen. A forumite wrote me once he found out I'd sent my guitar to Paul and tried to convince me to have it returned and sent elsewhere since "Paul couldn't paint a Fireglo to save his life." To Paul's credit, he didn't even mention that part in the story above, but I think it should be known, since the pictures speak for themselves, and prove without a shadow of a doubt that Paul can nail a Fireglo finish. You'd be hard-pressed to tell it is a refinish, and in actuality the guitar is a much prettier and a deeper lustrous red than these digital photos simply could not capture, a real stunner of a finish that nailed my expectations exactly! And I'm extremely picky, as Paul can certainly attest! I think I sent him several dozen reference photos over the past year. There aren't many people out there that can do this kind of quality refinish. So glad I trusted my gut instincts! Thanks Paul!!!

Great guitar, Rod - once again, well done by Paul

Re: LOTS OF PROJECTS NEARING COMPLETION...
I've had Paul re-do two for me and make an acoustic from scratch and he nailed the colors every time. Especially the acoustic where he nailed the sample image color perfectly. He's got the touch.

Re: LOTS OF PROJECTS NEARING COMPLETION...
Beautiful........The iphone seems to give pretty accurate colours.......I'm a fan
Re: LOTS OF PROJECTS NEARING COMPLETION...
I was going to make the same remark about the colors. Not a fan of Apple but I will admit that the iPhone captured the colors really well. Nothing looks quite like a fireglo finish and these pictures actually show that really well.
Of course the guitar looks absolutely beautiful, photography aside.
