Probably TOO general a question,but....

Were 2008 model year necks (one piece) mostly on the chunky side? I seem to recall comments about them getting fatter before the company went to the 2 piece necks. I am asking about the 4003 model.

Well, my July 2008 4003's neck seems pretty nice. Not as slim as my '76 4001, but definitely not in the baseball bat range (like the 2009 4003 I had for a few days). It's a fretless though, so that might be different...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

My May '08 neck was the thinnest I've had. Not chunky at all compared to my '06, '87, and all my 4004 basses.

My former May '08 4003 had a neck very much like that on my '73 4001, it was just a bit wider at the heel end of the neck but the string spacing was the same.
