It wont open.
Re: Didn't Someone Post...
I saw that tour 4 times!
The first show is when Chris invited my friends and I up to visit with him after the show.

Re: Didn't Someone Post...
Listen to how different his tone is here.

Amp, settings, effects differences.

Working vs. non working horseshoe pickup?
Re: Didn't Someone Post...
I still find that one hard to believe. Chris knows his equipment well enough to know if a pickup is working or not. I'm guessing the bass was looked at by his tech, and when the decision was made to send it in, the tech didn't hook the pup back up before packing up the RM for sending.jps wrote:Working vs. non working horseshoe pickup?

I agree, it would have been pretty obvious that the pickup wasn't working.

Especially since he runs in stereo. I think he would know if half of his rig were silent.jps wrote:I agree, it would have been pretty obvious that the pickup wasn't working.
The first clip is from QPR, Relayer tour. Wish a true release of that show would surface with the proper sound mix.
If I remember that story correctly, the bass came to RIC service with the pickup lead disconnected, but that was in the middle of a repair job spread out over several different facilities. I don't think Chris was touring or recording with a dead HS in his RM - He's a bit more savvy than that!
I believe the the original discussion track for the Fender bass was South Side of the Sky. He has always used the RM for Ritual.

Does anyone know the source for this clip?

I'm not sure, Mark. It looks fairly recent, like the 2010 European tour, but it looks to be professionally shot, perhaps by a local TV station and Jon Anderson's voice credits Chris after the solo... ??? It looks like Benoit David is on stage at around 3:35 or so, also Oliver Wakeman, but the shot is too far away for clarification. The attire that Steve and Chris are wearing is from their current tours. So, did someone dub in Jon's voice?
Re: Didn't Someone Post...
Excellent filming on that clip-really got some great close-ups of the RM,as well as the interplay between Chris and Alan.
Edit I went to the topographic tour, and the masterworks,he used the RM both times for Ritual. I don't think the studio version sounds like a jazz bass, either, the sound Chris tends to get when he plays the jazz bass is pretty distinctive.

It's always the RM with both pickups in stereo and alive. the thing is - when the horseshoe is connected to the brassmasster, I've seen on some footage (I think Amazing Grace solo from 1991 Union tour), that Chris turns the volume on the horseshoe a bit down (possibly the tone knob too) so the sound from it is of course not the usual clanking sound (because it's ran through the mellow distortion/fuzz of the brassmaster) and because the volume is lower, so the overall tone has "more" neck pickup - which i guess - is ran "clean". I used to think, listening Yesshows' Ritual that that intro sounded a lot like a saxophone ("brass" master)... Finally - Chris plays this part not with a pick but with his fingers - thumb and index doing those octaves - that also mellows the tone. All of this, of course, just my guess.

Pretty darn good guess....miguelbass wrote:It's always the RM with both pickups in stereo and alive. the thing is - when the horseshoe is connected to the brassmasster, I've seen on some footage (I think Amazing Grace solo from 1991 Union tour), that Chris turns the volume on the horseshoe a bit down (possibly the tone knob too) so the sound from it is of course not the usual clanking sound (because it's ran through the mellow distortion/fuzz of the brassmaster) and because the volume is lower, so the overall tone has "more" neck pickup - which i guess - is ran "clean".
