The Mapleglo one is a set neck and the Fireglo is a neck thru S (as in standard).

The set neck ones were actually model 4000's that were converted to 4001's correct?

Seems like you see a lot more of these with the set neck.

Ronn is right - I quote from the Smith book... "The export models all had two model numbers: the one used by the American factory and one used by Rose Morris. The factory considered the export models special orders; so they added an S to the model number used..."

OK, thanks Ronn and thanks Tony - I always thought the S stands for standard and that the non S models were the 'specials'. But after the V era and the current C series we can appreciate the fact that S models are 'special'.
