I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Same here. And, for 40 years too. No kidding!

It took more time to screw the damn thing up to where it touches the strings just to be disappointed. I might just rip it out and ground the bridge assembley next time I change strings.

I also use it on my V63.

The easier the thumb screws are to turn, the more I use it.

I have it set to where it is JUST touching the strings.

I reached for the mute screws while recording last night, but since I was recording with a 4004 it didn't work out too well. Got a chuckle out of me as I thought of this thread.

Were I to be in a "Surfer" type band, I would probably use it all the time.

However, being in a prog-rock band, I've never found it to be useful in any way.

Mute?

Eh, I never really messed with it until last night for the very first time. And this is my third 4003.

I used it again this last Sunday for a jazzy-type set. It was just a piano and my 4001C64. I bypassed the cap for a little extra thud and cranked up the mute for the best faux-upright sound you can get on a fretted electric bass!

Is the mute moot?

The mute on my 4003 seems to be slightly too big for the bridge. Is it normally difficult to raise and lower?
