My project is back from Mike Dolan

Post by marc61 »

Just came back today, now I gotta put her together. There's definately gonna be some problems so it's gonna take a couple weeks. Here's a little preview with some of the parts I'll be using.

Mark...That is stunning!! I love that green/gold/black combo...the dark neck with dots also looks right on...Is Dr. Dolan's work as great as I've been hearing? Is it nitro or poly?

David, the dark neck with the dots are Ted's work. As you can see by the above photo the ebony was already there. Ted corrected the badly out of whack radius, and installed new frets and pearl dot markers.

It will truly be a "forum bass" when it's done. Everything used to make this bass either came directly from forum members or their information.I think there are a few here who could claim that about their projects.

It is pretty cool to have had a hand in restoring that one. I am especially proud of the binding. In hindsight, I should have made the binding 3 ply. An innner layer of black .020 would have made a beautiful accent to tie in with the black trim. Of course, at the time the finish color was far from decided.

Who made pickguard? Is that your actual signature Marc?

Some company makes them, I saw them on the net. Sombody similar to pickguard heaven... damn, forgot the name.

What you do, is supply your wanted guard shape and your signature, either digitally or on paper. They then print it onto the plastic. Cool idea, doesn't cost too much either.

Pickguardian made the guard. They have templates for the Rick basses. You print out an order form and sign it like two or three times. I guess they just take the best of the signatures.

Umm.. if anyone else wants my name on their bass, I already paid the setup charge, so the next one is less;>)

So as far as I know me and CS are the only guys with their signatures on Ric basses

The Frey is nowhere near as cool as the Seligman though.
