The Signature bass (that never was)
I've been reading about the signature models (of Ric bass & guitar)... really interresting stuff, and I'm surprised that there aren't more, considering that a certain group of scousers were partly responsible for Ric's rise to fame.
It got me wondering who else would be worthy of a signature bass? It got me speculating what modifications their signature model might incorporate?
The two bass hero's I would choose (although talented), are not especially famous, and I guess this is probably a prerequisite if your going to encourage high volumes of sales, they both also play deleted Ric models, also probably not a great starting block.
I realise this is never going to happen. But feel free to post a reply stating so crushing my dreams into shiney shiney dream dust.
But anyway, as I am adept at writing and you are willing readers (close eyes now otherwise)...I would choose:
Mani - The Stone Roses / Primal Scream
Or
Nick O'Malley - Arctic Monkeys
Both play (on ocaission) Ric 3000 basses. I suppose Nick O'Malley is more 'of the moment' and therefore more marketable. However in my opinion, mani is very worthy, and underated.
The fact that the 3000 was a less expensive bass is a plus. A great quality instrument at an afordable price. and as for the modifications well what about:
- a toaster pickup? - growly, nice!
- a tear drop pickguard? - I just think it looks cool
- a bolt on hollow body (like a lakeland)? - Mani is often associated with the Ric 4005, also an epiphone jack cassidy.
Any way, I have 'vented' now and feel better for it...What would your choice be?

I want to be a door too...
Re: The Signature bass (that never was)
I always wanted my own signature bass ;-[ )
Some of my favorite Rick players already have them, Lemmy and Squire. Roger Glover played a pretty much stock 4001 until he put 2 angled Jazz pickups in. Don't think that would fly. I'm not personally into sig. models. If I were to aquire a Squire 4001 and I was going to play it, opposed to collector only, I'd take the pickguard off.
Just thought of another one though. A Rick James white 4001. And how's this... A Star Stow tribute model?

I would have done mine, but I couldn't figure out how to write backwards......

Re: The Signature bass (that never was)
Paul McCartney (although he never had his actual signature anywhere on the bass) had a signature model, the 4001C64. The flipped head was a trademark of his left-handed 4001S bass, and so Ric decided to offer right handers a taste of what Paul had. There was also a small run of left hand 4001V63's to Japan (they get everything!) with right-handed necks called 4001PMC, again, it did not bear McCartney's signature.
What I'm trying to say is, Paul had a signature model, too, but the 4001PMC, 4001C64 and 4001C64S beared his signature nowhere.

Looks like you've spelled backwards just fine, Todd.teb wrote:I would have done mine, but I couldn't figure out how to write backwards......

Great shot! Pete, do you have a source for it that I may inquire for photo rights?
