Had my finger on the B.I.N for a couple of minutes....Just wanted a little longer to look over that bridge/pu thing, and of course if was any colour other than black I wouldn,t have thought about it at all...

Actually guys someone else got it...I was thinking about it, going back and forth and wishing it was any colour other than black. Even with all the mods still a good price if the colour is original. The search continues...

Man, that lasted less than 2 hours! My 4005WB had a Badass II bridge on it back in the mid '70s, but all is well now.

I dont know how I missed this. I was fooling with ebay all day long. Judging from the pickup location, this is an early one right? With the bridge PU in the sweetspot?

looks like a68- long headstock.scott he says the pickup was moved up ,dont know if the headstock on the 4005 were changed after 68 like the 4001.its like looking for a muscle car from the 60s, you can find them, rarly untouched though,somebody always has to f---with something.

I'd take off the Fender bridge, buy the 4005 bridge that Rhodes music has and add another toaster where the original was. Then I'd wire it like a 370. I'd probably refinish it in Fireglo too and all for way less than the price of an original. Did anyone notice the crack in the headstock pic?

Saw that too Dane. Looks like a little seperation in the walnut wings there. That was another reason while I waited a couple of minutes. It could end up being a good buy. It went to someone in the U.K. at about 1000 sterling which is what you see mid 70,s 4001 for over there...I guess he,s happy...

I have excellent guitar techs at my disposal so none of the issues with the bass would have stopped me from pulling the trigger on that one...except for the short scale. I had a 4005 once and girls said I looked so cute with "that big giant guitar". Since I wasn't getting any taller and the bass wasn't getting any shorter, it had to go.

No telling what year? Did all 4005's have checkered binding or did that end same time as 4001's? Can't make out the binding on those pics.

From the look of the headstock, klusons and screws, I,d agree with Ken that it,s around 68, or possibly earlier.

Actually it is a standard long scale bass! Too bad that stopped you from pulling the trigger.

The idea of adding another toaster is an excellent one. This bass can easily be made right again with the exception of the "improved" pickup position. But judging from my 4005WB and the positions of the toasters on my 4004Cii, the new location of that pickup probably does sound good.
