Do the RMs have a hum? This website mentions the Ric McGuinn 12-string having a hum/noise at least twice.

I havn't noticed it on mine, but on the bright setting (the one with the most treble response), it has a tendency to pick up FM radio signals on a very low level through my amp. I don't know if any other 370/12 RM owners have experienced this.
I don't know whether that qualifies as a hum or not.
I'm intrigued by this new compressor as I'm wanting to "retire" my 370/12 RM due to the rising value on these. I'm almost afraid to play mine out anymore. Would probably play my 360/12 CW through this if I were to buy one.

My McGuinns all have a tendancy to hum - as the sustain fades out the hum/hiss comes in and then gates out. But it's not a problem. This jangle box sounds great - are you on commission Jeff??

i heard good things about this box, too. Don Butler, the amplifier guru known as "Toneman" was raving about it over on Voxtalks. Sounds promising.

Don't I wish! No, just trying to put the good word out on new products. Actually I noticed over on Vox Talks that our good friend Don Butler gave rave reviews on this over the weekend. If it's good enough for Don, then it's good enough for me!
I just found out about this from a friend of mine this past Friday. He knew I was looking for an outboard compressor along the lines of the Byrds/McGuinn sound.

I'm very tempted to try one of these things out. Sounds very boutique, though. Unlikely they'll be in the local shops to test drive. I wonder how the Aphex sounds in comparison.

I've been looking for a compressor for while and it is hard to make out of all the choices from $50 to $250 depending on the brands. For a rick 12 and country sounds, are there stomp box compressors that will fit the bill, better than others under boutique prices ?

I just bought a Boss CS-3 Compression/Sustainer. Guitar Center has been selling them for $79. You can read a plethora of consumer reviews on the CS-3 (127 of them) at

Mark: I use two Boss CS-3s together for the McGuinn sound and I find it works very well.

Thanks for the input. I read on the janglebox site that people sometimes indeed run two compressors to get the ric/mcguin "jangly thang" going. I'm looking at stuff that ranges from $50 to $250 ... its hard to know what is enough, especially on the web.
any other comments would be great.

David: I got two used Boss CS-3s for $150 Canadian. The Boss pedals have been around for a long while and I find them to be excellent. I am certainly not taking anything away from the boutique lines, however, but what I have is effective and affordable. Roger McGuinn uses the POD these days.

its an interesting option. Here in Europe it is an art to find any music gear at a fair price, even with a very strong currency. Thankfully there are some large distributors in germany that have practically North American prices. For example, i could go with two rocktron "big crushes" for 80€ or get a pod v2 for about 150 € (although, I don't really need it as I have a tech21 with lots of modulation). I don't know much about rocktron pedals except that they have not sold and are no at clearance prices overhear.

i'll let you know and I'm all ears to anybody's opinion on this.
