Re: BYPASSING THE "CAP"?????
Thanks for the replies, good info to have. I tend to use the neck PU a lot, but it is something worth considering.
Re: BYPASSING THE "CAP"?????
I'm pretty new around here and have always been into modifying guitars.
How about posting a little sample with the cap bypassed and in circuit?
I'm really curious about how it affects the sound.

Re: BYPASSING THE "CAP"?????
If I ever manage to get myself a 4001c64, I'm thinking the push/pull pot is a great idea. I think I would do it the opposite of a 4003, though: cap engaged in the down position (as it comes from the factory), cap bypassed when knob is pulled up.
I would want the bass to have the vintage vibe with option to get a ballsier sound, so to me the default setting should be cap on.
I suppose that's all irrelevant until I manage to actually own one, though.

Jonathan ---- think positive !! You're hanging around with the right group of cheer-leaders now, who will give you all the encouragement, accolades, logic and RAS justification reasoning --- of why you need more Ricks !!!! It's contagious.

Re: BYPASSING THE "CAP"?????
hahaha, I'm certainly trying to, Rich!
I'm really hoping to have the cash for one before the last brand new ones sell out. They're moving slowly off of shelves right now, but I know they're bound to sell out eventually, likely before I can come up with an extra $2700.
I'll keep dreaming! Who knows, surrounded by all of you enablers, I might just end up doing something rash and really upsetting my wife!

Re: BYPASSING THE "CAP"?????
Well, now I've got the C64, and with some help from our friend Rickenbrother, it now has the push/pull pot installed as described above. I haven't gotten to try it in a gig situation yet, but from testing it out in Joey's studio, it sounds awesome!coolingitdown wrote:I'm thinking the push/pull pot is a great idea. What a great tonal option to have at one's disposal!

Your bass sounded awesome, Jon, at SCARF. It could get growly at times and mellow at others. It certainly was my favorite bass there.

Re: BYPASSING THE "CAP"?????
The quality of push-pull pots is not quite as high as a full size pot, since they are essentially mini pots, so if you're using a push-pull pot for anything, put it in the volume position where pot quality is not as important.
Re: BYPASSING THE "CAP"?????
Hello, my first post.
I am new to bass guitar having switched from guitar after being invited to form a project I was very keen to get involved with.
When modding guitar capacitors in the past there was always talk of "mojo" capacitors. While the bypass mod described here seems straight forward is there much talk of changing the remaining capacitors in either value or brand?
Sorry if this is common knowledge but I am as new to forums as I am to bass.
Thanks, Woz.
