4001, you can tell by the shedua strip down the neck that a 4003 does not have.

Including a lefty fireglo PMC v63 which I sold. Wish I could turn back time. But it's been a couple years and I finally came home to the bass I love. Rics. Sold My fenders and hofner 500/1 to fund this. Was a bit expensive but leftys are hard to find today

SWEET looking Bass!!!!!! I was watching that one on Ebay.......wanted it VERY much, but didn't have the money.
LOVE those "S" basses!!!!!!!!

Congrats!!!!!!!

That's a 4001S. 4003S would have 2-piece 'guard and 2 extra screws at rear of tailpiece, and no skunk stripe.

One simple way to check, if it is a set neck, it can't be a 4003. The only Rick basses with this body style and a set neck are the 4000 and 4001S made between 1972 and 1982ish. This "common chassis" construction allowed either model to be made to order.

i think berth's "brutal" comment may be that the 4000 has no filter cap, thus making it sound more agressive, compared to the stock 4001, not in the construction methods of the wood working.
