tuners for 1975 4001
I'm looking for tuners for my 1975 4001.
I think they were using Grovers or Klusons
thanks!

Welcome to the RRF Bob. There is a big difference between the footprint and screwpattern of these tuners. A pic of the rear of your headstock may help.

Re: tuners for 1975 4001
If it's a '75 it's 99% likely to have had Klusons. Easy way to tell is by the screw holes - Grovers leave a perfect rectangular pattern whilst Klusons, like the current Schallers, leave a trapezoid pattern (wider towards the top of the headstock.
Klusons come up on Ebay every now and then and are way cheaper than the wavy Grovers. They were used on some Gibsons and Epiphones (though sometimes with chrome plating rather than nickel). I believe that you can readily convert a 4-on-side set to 2+2 configuration if you're up for that sort of thing.

Re: tuners for 1975 4001
My late '75 has the reverse Klusons.
Re: tuners for 1975 4001
Unlike the current Schaller/RIC vintage tuners, the Klusons cannot be converted from one orientation to the other. The U shaped key retainer straps tend to break when bent during dissassembly.antipodean wrote: I believe that you can readily convert a 4-on-side set to 2+2 configuration if you're up for that sort of thing.

This would have had the reverse tune nickle-plated Klusons.
Re: tuners for 1975 4001
thanks!
now I gotta find the right tuners......(reverse tune nickle-plated Klusons)
Am I correct that this may be difficult? I found some repros that have 'Rickenbacker' stamped on them....but I think that started a few years after '75...

Re: tuners for 1975 4001
Call RIC and order a set of tuners for a C64. You'll probably need to use the bushings that came with the Rickenbacker stamped tuners you purchased since the holes in the headstock may be too large for the C64 bushings.
Re: tuners for 1975 4001
I just realized that I may actually own the correct tuners for my 4001. I have a 3001 from the same era and have attached photos from the 3001.
Can anyone tell if these the correct ones I need on the '75 4001?
thanks for your continued help.

I think so, but then you'll have a 3001 with the wrong tuners. Hmm.
