Wow! I'd like to see more like that, and early CT pics as well!

Well, by 1978 those cabs were totally trashed, and had all made it over to Ricks side. Tom had changed to Hiwatts and a Thunderbird.

in moncton 1977, when trick backed kiss, petersson had two thunderbird basses, no multistring basses, but they still had the sound city cabs only they were loaded with spotlights to blind the crowd, not speakers, and very tattered looking.

Tom's playing and sound on the first Cheap Trick album are first rate. The 12 strings are cool (I even had a Hamer B12S for a while because I am a huge CT fan) but his Thunderbird sounded best IMHO.

Around here, (WI) CT played enough and made enough dough in the early days to pretty much buy up every cool piece of used gear around. I always thought TP got a real Rick type sound. It really is a good match to their sound, but yea, the Thunderbirds were the primary instruments used. To this day the CT first album is in my personal Top 10.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there's two Ampeg stacks behind the drum kit and I think those were Tom's amps at that time.

One of Tom's Thunderbird basses had 'a flying lesson' (through his apartment window)
and his girlfriend coincidentally became an ex at the very second it hit the ground.
