insured Ricks?
Anyone here have insurance on their collections? If so, who do you have coverage with? I saw an ad for insurance on instruments by a company called Heritage and was considering it...

I'd a very often-discussed topic 'round these parts.

Re: insured Ricks?
My stuff is supposedly covered with my Statewide renters insurance. Then again, I "only" have six guitars.

Re: insured Ricks?
If you earn money from them, then you need an 'Inland Marine' policy. That's insurance industry jargon for tools of the trade that you take to and fro.
If they are for hobby or collector items, then your homeowner or renters policy may offer a rider to cover them.

Generally a homeowners policy will cover up to a certain dollar amount if they are not "tools of the trade" as John mentioned. There is probaly a max for any one type of items (example jewelry) without a rider.

My renter's insurance only covered up to the first $1000 on instruments...
I have Clarion for my guitars and drums.

yipes!! yeah, checked renters insurance and they will cover only a certain amount, not exceeding $2,500 TOTAL. that wouldn't cover one guitar! haha. so yeah, i think i will be getting an all-peril policy (which includes Earthquake damage) and hope i live through The Big One to collect!

Re: insured Ricks?
Heritage has a $350 minimum premium on their musical instrument policies, but that will cover several guitars, and it includes theft or damage at a venue where you may be performing, which is huge. Homeowners policies are much more restrictive, even with a rider; a separate policy (with higher rates) is required for "gig" instruments, as compared to "home" instruments.
The people at Heritage are very helpful and cooperative, and it's a nice feeling to know that your instruments are protected.

I have a Personal Articles Policy on all my gear with State Farm. It rocks.
Re: insured Ricks?
Just bought a collectibles insurance from heritage insurance. $80k is $468.00 a year.

Re: insured Ricks?
I've carried a policy with Heritage for years, and have been very pleased. They insure for declared value, and also very important to me, they cover my stuff while it's in transit during moves, while shipping during sale or purchase, etc..
I've only had one claim experience with them (knocking on wood!
), and it went very smoothly, though it was for a very cheap guitar I'd sold that was damaged in shipping.

that led to scores of posts about SHIPPING insurance. should've added "heritage" to the search. from what i've read here, i think that's the company i'm gonna go with. also, they have the most professional looking website (i am pretty leery of any sites that have typos in their text, and there were some atrocious sites out there!) and are underwritten by Traveler's, which is a reputable entity!

I have Heritage. Never had to file a claim, knock on the wood.
Re: insured Ricks?
My guitars are insured by Heritage as well. I've never had to file a claim so I can't tell you anything about that, but it does cover everything I need, theft (including at clubs), damage, guitar shows, shipping when I've bought guitars online, etc.
It gives me great peace of mind.
