Yesterday got a cool compliment

Post by RicOSoundMan »

For starters Not sure if this belongs here Joey but here goes.

Well I play at church now a days instead of regular gigs. Granted Sunday mornings is always a gauranteed gig!

Well Yesterday morning I took my Fender Jazz bass to church cause it needed some play time too.. Several people asked. "Hey Andy, where is the Rickenbacker" Made me smile cause they seem to like my Ric's better.

Well thought I would share this with you guys/gals. And Joey remove the post if it isn't supposed to be here.

Hahaha, yeah, I've played some Sunday mornings myself, with both of my Ricks, my Carvin kit 4-string, my custom Carvin 6-string fretless, and my knock-off Hofner. The Ricks have drawn waaaay more comments than the others, that's for sure! I have only brought a different bass once since I got my 4003. I was kinda sore that day, so I brought the lightweight Hofner knock-off. A fellow bassist said it sounded good, but not as good as the Rick, and everybody else just asked where my Rick was!

That is my only service as a musician these days. This weekend i'm playing Saturday night 1 service and 3 on Sunday. And my worship tool is my 2009 4003 Jetglo. That bass cuts through the mix better than any bass I have used, but the Jerry Jones longhorn strung with flats that I used to have could come pretty close. And yes it does command attention more than anything else I own or have owned. I'm very happy with my 4003!

I got a nice compliment Friday night. After the show, the sound man said something like "more guys should play Rics. That thing sounds awesome"! He liked my '74 SVT too.

Seems many of us are Sunday players!

I play at two different churches. One is a very old bldg with horrible wiring within spitting distance to an airport!

Try as I might, I can't use a RIC in this church. I've had it shielded, use only shielded cables, a power conditioner, noise gate, you name it.
I just can't use a single coil pickup, so an active USA Peavey bass of some sort gets the playtime. This is where I miss my 4004cii the most.

However, my V63 gets a LOT of exposure in the PM service. This bldg is much more modern and seats almost 2900 people at once.
More on holidays where we video link into the gym and other out buildings. I get more attention when one of my RICS comes out to play.
I don't have the noise problem and almost every Sunday someone will come up and ask to see the bass close up. I get all of my "tone" compliments here as well.

Something about the way that RIC grind sounds echoing through the church! 8)

Andrew, nothing wrong with saying or discussing that you're playing your Rick for religious purposes, it's the discussion of religion that will have the nuke button hit on the thread.

...my wife told me recently, the Classic '70ies Jazz Bass I also play once in a while sounds better at church than my 4001! :(
It seems the Rick is too rocky for the worship songs. :?
