New 660/12 Burgundy...

Hi. I'm new to the forum (and Rickenbackers). I just received a new 660/12 Burgundy yesterday and had a chance to use it last night. What a super little guitar! I've already worked it into some of my band's tunes.
I've been playing electric guitar since 1963 and have always wanted a Rickenbacker. I just never acted on it. I'm glad I finally did.

I also just picked up a new Gretsch 6122SP just a couple of months ago. Also really nice. I'm mainly a Carvin player, and have a few Gibsons and a token Fender Strat and a couple of Ibanez guitars, and a token Brian May Burns. And I'd been using a Vox Phantom XII until I sold it a few years ago, and had since replaced it with a Phantom Guitars Phantom XII. This just was NOT a Rickenbacker. Hence the move towards the 660/12.

I can now successfully play Beatles (among others) tunes with the proper gear! I'll post pix of the 660/12 as soon as I snap some later.
It's nice to finally own a real Rickenbacker.

Craig...welcome to the forum!

Hmmmm.....you have all of the beginning signs of R.A.S, which is similar to G.A.S., only on a higher level....

With a 660-12, you have subconsciously subjected yourself to a few of Rickenbackers opium like features:

Checkered binding , toaster pickups, full width inlays and last but not least....jangle.

Welcome.....this is more like a support group, lol!!

Thanks! So, just what is R.A.S?

Let's see, this year alone I've purchased a new signed Ibanez JEM 77, a custom black Burns Brian May, an extra Carvin 3-pickup Tele, an old Carvin V220 (X-shaped), the Gretsch 6122SP, and now the Rickenbacker 660/12. whatever R.A.S. is, I guess this qualifies me.
By the way, I love the 'jangle'!

Hi Craig,
Congratulations on a beautiful guitar! I have a 660/12 in mapleglo on order and can't wait for it to arrive. Please share some of your thoughts about set-up and playability. Was the intonation pretty good on yours when you got it? One of the reasons I ordered a 660/12 is because of the 12-saddle bridge.

Hi John Michael. I purchased it from Michael Parks. He took it out of the box and set it up for me. I literally took it out of the box when I received it and took it to band practice. All I have had to do with it is tune it up. The string height and the intonation is flawless. And, if it wasn't, with the 12-saddle bridge it would be a snap to set.
This is a beautiful guitar from the standpoint of playability and looks. It's a small feeling guitar, which I like. The neck feels real good too. It's certainly a very playable guitar with a great sound. I think you're going to have fun once yours arrives.

Congrats Craig... I'm about to order a 660/12 from Michael Parks also... I just bought one his new aquisitions to add to my collection... Talk about RAS... I've got it bad... A 1966 360/12 Fireglo, 1991 360/12 Mapleglo WBBT, 2002 620/6 Fireglo,1988 230 Hamburg White and the latest to be added a 1996 230F (Glenn Frey) and ordering a 660/12... I definately have R.A.S. but I love my Rics... I've owned the 1966 360/12 since I've been 16... It was my 16th birthday present and I'll be buried with it!!!

Ken B, I wanted to let you know that in 1966, I almost bought a Rickenbacker 6/12 guitar. You know, the one with the comb to pull the 6 higher octave strings away so the 12 string can become the 6 string. I opted for the Gretsch Country Gentleman instead. I've always regretted 'not' getting the Rick. But, the CG was a very cool guitar at the time too. Just a couple of months ago I did repurchase the newest Gretsch 6122SP (George Harrison model).
So, 38 years later, I now have both a Gretsch and a Rickenbacker. I really have 'guitar' acquistion syndrome these days, not necessarily R.A.S. This year, I've purchased all of the guitars I've ever wanted and couldn't afford, including the 660/12. The nicest thing, is that I'm actually using them all from time to time. At the age of 50, I'm still actively playing in 3 bands. I'll be playing in all 3 this month alone. Each band has it's own tunes and style, so all of my guitars get some use once in a while.
Anyway, it's a blast to finally be able to afford those instruments I could only dream about in the past.
