I know the shot you're thinking of, and not even a Google Images search came up with it. Mesaros is on the right in the picture and he's holding the Shadow upside down like he was a lefty. Let me know if you find the pic.

There is at least one other picture of Mesaros with the Shadow. Both pictures are in Rickenbacker Smithereens posters:

4003SPC? You'd expect Rickenbacker to get the model designation right.

Actually, RIC uses the 4003SPC for several other model descriptions, more of an in-house thing I think. There is no numerical/alphabetical designator for the Shadow that we know of besides 4003 Shadow, and I believe 4003SPC was used at the time. This designator was used again a couple years later (in 1988) for the then-new Blackstar/Redneck/Tuxedo trio. Also, I think the SPC designator was used in-house for some of the one-off specials sold direct on eBay in the last few years. Perhaps John Hall can enlighten us?

I think I have one of those Smithereens posters rolled up in a tube around here somewhere. Wowza, never noticed the bass was a Shadow. . . of course I didn' teven know there was a Rick 4003 that was called a Shadow until two years ago. ..
There is no reason to ever be bored.

Forgot about that one! Great bass tone there, super punchy. The fact that he plays with his fingers right next to the bridge doesn't hurt none either...
