Are The TV Knobs Brown?

Post by Tommy »

I am looking to order a set of the vintage TV knobs, but everywhere I look the description says:

4 pc Vintage TV Knob Set
Brown knob w/Gold Insert

Brown? Yet, in every picture they appear to be black knobs.

Exactly what color are these knobs?
If I order these "brown" ones will I be getting black (which is what I want)?

Tommy - check out this prior thread under "Oven Knobs" and there is commentary on the brown knobs, including from John Hall. viewtopic.php?f=22&t=400721&start=0&hilit=oven+knobs

I had some black TV knobs with silver inserts once. I bought them several years ago on eBay but haven't seen any for sale lately.

On my Vaio screen they are most definitely brown in both pictures. Albeit dark brown, they're brown.

I have those same ones (black w/silver inserts) on one of my guitars and was able to find a set for Rich F. at a local guitar show as well. They come up from time to time.

It sounds like RIC never used the black/silver ones at the factory but other than the color, they are pretty much the same; and they look great on a Jetglo guitar!

But brown doesn't go with any color!

Come on, think about fashion. Black is the color that can accessorize with anything. On a guitar black can surely go with FireGlo, JetGlo, or Midnight Blue. Brown? What's that famous George Gobel line? "Did you ever feel life was a tuxedo and you were a pair of brown shoes?" Brown is out of place. Brown goes with nothing. Brown knobs on a Red guitar??? Brown on a blue guitar?

Anyway, thanks for the help in settling if they are brown or not. I'm going to order these brown knobs just for the heck of it. I have got to see for myself if they go with red or blue.

I know that in the case of a suit, brown, tan, and burgundy shoes and belt go with navy.

I think the brown and gold went okay with the gold guards, and the usual MG or vintage FG finish. Brown is a combination of red and yellow, so, brown and gold knobs go with the FG finish and gold guards.

I would still prefer black and silver oven knobs, preferably over a clear, silver-back painted set of guards.
There is no reason to ever be bored.

...why yes, I suppose I do have a double bound guitar fetish...

"Uh, I like the double bounds. . . ."

The 'after market' set I have are black with gold inserts, as can be seen in the picture I posted in the cited thread. I picked those up used at a now-defunct electronics supply shop in San Diego.

I got my knobs, and, yeah, they are a shade of brown. Very dark brown. I like 'em.
