Really? As far as I know the Directive calls for an opt-in method, whereby users need to agree to have the website use cookies. Cookies as such are not illegal per se.

However, there's an exception to user consent in the Directive! The exception provides that where a cookie is “strictly necessary for the legitimate purpose” of allowing the user to access a service he or she has specifically requested then no consent is necessary. An online store would be such a requested service, imo.

As it's a Directive every EU memberstate will have to adopt it in their way and thus different readings will appear from country to country.

Yes, you're quite correct- that's the long version of what I was saying. In the meantime, someone has to write the opt-in code and you have retention rules for the period that you must keep the documentation of that opt-in.

Well, it isn't the first silly EU legislation I've come across, it's what I specialised in. The EU gives with one hand, and the other hand takes it!

If you open the boutique to EU nationals you'd even have to have them agree that their contact and bank information can be stored on servers outside the EU. I think only Yahoo once asked me when that rule was introduced and now nobody cares anymore! The cookie thing will hopefully only target annoying ad trackers, and not useful webcommerce!

Congrats! excellent addition, kudos to you and to Dan!
I hope that Israel would be added to the country list once international purchases will be available.

Thanks! And, amazingly, we were able to import it all from SQL without your kind assistance!

Now, if the United States Postal Service could get their act together and get our postal API up on their production server, we'd be ready to ship to Israel.

Nice job with the Boutique! I just placed an order for a few items and the entire transaction took a few minutes and was very easy.

Big improvement.

Great work, John (and Dan)! :D 8)

Now, how does one go about getting a replacement (exchange + cost) R tailpiece using the system ... :)

We have a proposed procedure, which involves the purchase of a serialized certificate that's handled by electronic download. You forward that in along with your old part so that the new one can be shipped.

FYI, this same facility, which is already up and working, will allow us to provide music, video, and other document downloads from the site.
