What a fantastic show, and what amazing sound and video clarity. It's almost like being there. Hope you enjoy it, Werner!

That opening with the train before "Feeling Gravitys Pull" gives me goosebumps
I think there's a bootleg of this show out there on DVD?

There certainly is on LP. Nearly the same setlist as the one called "Can't Get There from Here" (Hammersmith Palais Ballroom, London. October 28th, 1985). I believe that's how they did "Gravity's Pull" for the entire tour.
It's nice to see so much new footage, particularly of such good sound and video quality. Do you know of any other full concerts from the "Fables" tour on YouTube? (I've really enjoyed the clips from the Raleigh, NC show, including three tracks with Peter playing his Jetglo 360/12, but the sound and video quality is poor.)

Re: REM Broke Up!!!
Robert, I'll have to ask a friend, who owns more, I'm a bootleg snub, I only go for A+ Quality soundboard and FM recordings. Video I usually skip, although the Zeche Bochum is very nice. I used to torrent for the friend, but didn't keep track of whatever he asked me to d/l and burn for him.

Re: REM Broke Up!!!
Werner,
I used to own a whole library of R.E.M. bootlegs, but I lost most of them when I sold my LP collection a few years ago. For the most part, the sound quality was abysmal, with lots of wow and flutter in the tape machines which made Peter's guitar parts sound warped and off key. As for DVD bootlegs, I wouldn't even know where to look for them. It's nice that the deluxe editions of Murmur and Reckoning came with bonus unreleased live material. That 1983 Larry's Hideaway show is a classic, up there with "Return of the Rickenbackers" on my list of favorite R.E.M. bootlegs. Obviously, as the concert venues got larger, the sound quality on the recordings deteriorated. But the release of the Dublin Olympia show from 2007 was a pleasant surprise.
This may be a little off topic for an R.E.M. thread, but did you check out Chapman Jones' recording of an original called "Give it Back" on the Recordings forum? I know how much you covet your 360/6, and Chapman gets some serious jangle from his, so much so that in places it sounds like a 12'er. He's done this through multiple overdubs and running the guitar through an original Janglebox. By the way, did you ever order up your JB?

Re: REM Broke Up!!!
The only live bootleg LP I have is "Songs for a Green World" (Westwood One radio mix of Miami & Orlando Green tour live). I love that one, it's so different than listening to live track MP3s. For the rest I only still look for demo and rehearsal stuff. The live silver CD bootlegs have almost all been sold.
Thanks for mentioning that song, Robert. Really nice. I did order the JB2 but have been too busy to really toy with it yet.
The snippet of ballad in the trailer of the greatest hits package doesn't make me want to buy it at all. The snippet sounds dreadfully boring to me!

Silly post of the year award! If you'd read my initial post instead of just the quote you'd seen I actually mentioned it is a bootlegAin'tGotNoPokemon wrote:It was actually a bootleg for many years.
Actually I know someone who has original Westwood One radio discs of this show that were send at sister radio stations in the US. It really wasn't that hard to bootleg the show in good quality!

Re: REM Broke Up!!!
The information I gave you about Chapman's guitar was incorrect. He is playing a 330/6 on "Give it Back."

Re: REM Broke Up!!!
Robert, don't worry. I'll just have to see what I can get out of the 360. I haven't played my 340 for months, except for checking tuning and neck every month, so won't give her a try on the JB2.
I doubt we're derailing this thread - without R.E.M. I wouldn't be playing my 360, and we'd never have met on this forum. It's all R.E.M. legacy

Re: REM Broke Up!!!
Werner,
After listening to that version of "Green Grow the Rushes" you posted several months ago, I'd say you're already getting some great sounds out of your 360/6. Do you agree with me that the heavier strings make it easier to replicate Peter Buck's sound?
Too bad you haven't been playing the 340. My guitars have been languishing in their cases for over a month now. I've been totally swamped and haven't had time to noodle on them, let alone practice.
I think you'll be really impressed with the JB2. I know you've heard all the hype, but it's truly one of the best effects investments I've ever made. Now that I have one, my Rics just don't sound right without it.
I guess Peter Buck inspired us both to pick up Rickenbackers. It's nice that we've struck up some spirited conversations here.

Re: REM Broke Up!!!
Ehh? There must be a tholian web of confusion here, Robert! I might have posted a video of someone playing that song on a 330/12, but as far as I know I never posted a video of me playing it. In fact, I'm sure I never posted a video, as, although I like the song a lot, I've never tried to play it even!
I do have to at least play something, even if it's boring pentatonic scales. My left hand's ring finger got crushed for the upper half in a head-on car collision. If I don't play for three days the crushed finger starts hurting like hell. Playing guitar is rehabilitation therapy for the finger!
When I got the JB2 in, I connected it to my clean playing amp, and it sounded okay, I attached it to a borrowed AC30 and I suddenly sounded like a metal guitar player
I must admit I've been looking for ages for a strap like Peter has
This summer in the US, we stopped with the Gibson tour bus at a truck stop, so I had to go in to see if they sold her... and they did: the trucker girl! I didn't get one though, as I'd never put a sticker on Rickie!
I wish there were more official R.E.M. guitar tabs - partially because I had little musical education and just don't hear what some parts are, partially because I'm too lazy to figure out what Peter is picking.

Re: REM Broke Up!!!
Werner,
Sorry about the misunderstanding. I had started a thread called "Peter Buck's Alternate Stringing," and on Wednesday, December 15th, of last year, you posted a YouTube clip of someone playing an instrumental cover version of "Green Grow the Rushes," on what appears to be a Jetglo 360/6.

I assumed it was you in the video, and, in fact, I believe several people on that thread complimented you on your playing. But I stand corrected. You must have found that on a YouTube search.
