Recent 620/12's with vintage tuners

Post by randy_malone »

I've seen some recent 620/12's with vintage tuners instead of Schallers. In fact, I just bought a 2009 FG today. I thought I read that the factory was temporarily out of Schallers and substituted the vintage style; can anyone confirm that (or the real reason, if that's not correct)?

Thanks!

Does your new one have the vintage tuners?
Great Ramp In My Opinion.

Randy:

That is the story I heard... The factory ran out of the Schallers.

They all date from December 2009... It looks weird to see the vintage tuners with the holes in the headstock, but I love the look of the Kluson style tuners best...

Lots of examples in the register....

You did read that.

I'm a fan of the vintage look, with or without the headstock slots.

I think the vintage look is just that.. it looks old and I want my guitar to look newer. Plus, I want them to preform better, which is an even better reason to want the Schallers. That said, I would be pretty darn upset if my guitar showed up with vintage pegs if I did not order it that way! I hope they are giving companies and individuals the option to wait for the correct machines. The last thing I would want is to have to drill extra holes in my new instrument to get what I ordered in the first place. Some assembly required, really?

Yes, it has the vintage tuners and is a Dec 2009 date. I also wanted the Schaller tuners and the new 'through' slots, plus I preferred Maple-Glo (already have a Fire-Glo 330/12). But of the only two 620/12's in stock (both Fire-Glo), the other was a 2010 with Schallers and had the darker Fire-Glo (which I don't like) and the 2009 was noticably lighter in weight. I could have waited for a Maple-Glo to come in, but the lighter weight sold me on it. And the vintage tuners are growing on me (and are part of the lighter weight, I'm sure).
