Getty has PLB on bridge PU - and we don't have to argue from when that was, as it's obvious.

As for Teles, he's not always had that taped:

Question: Did you get these from Sweden's thread on Murmurs, or did Sweden get them from you here? http://www.murmurs.com/topic/118116-pre ... msearch__1

Weird, if it's a coincidence.

Just as I mention in the thread on Murmurs, I reposted the pictures that Werner found so that the Murmurs people could see them as well. It was a great find!

Well, good company, as I got a Master in International Law

The title still did not get changed. Maybe we have to do an "Occupy REM Broke Up" kind of thing?

I think it was just R.E.M.esque coincidence I found it :D

Sorry, I just believe in giving credit where credit is due: When I uploaded Cushy Tush to Youtube, I gave Werner due credit.

Damn, you're more resourceful than the both of us, Werner. 8)

I knew that was what you're fishing for. Give it a rest already, please. I did give Werner due credit, save for that I had forgotten his current Murmurs username. If he has any concerns with that, I'm happy to discuss it with him. Apperently he had none though, and I think we're all happy the more people get the chance to see these pics. Could you at least let us focus on discussing relevant stuff even if you yourself "don't like message boards anymore"? Thanks.

On topic, here's the new single from the upcmoning Best Of streaming, for anyone who hasn't heard it yet:

Is that a Jaguar Bass VI that Peter(?) plays, or a baritone? He played something of the kind with Tired Pony but I can't remember which it was.

Occupy: REM Broke Up!!!

Post by electrofaro »

David, never mind that Guy-called-Patrick. It's nice that you mentioned me, I doubt many folks remember me on Murmurs: aquila! Other folks being able to enjoy the pictures is what counts, indeed :D

Which picture of Peter with bass do you exactly mean? Did I miss that one in this thread? Maybe he got it through Steve Wynn - they seem to have a Jaguar bass with them all the time.

The song is okay, but just is so... uhm... average. It's not a bad song, it just doesn't bring more feelings than an "oh well".

Oh sure, there has been much Rick bass beauty in his side projects over the last few years (Scott with Venus 3, Peter with M5 and BBP). Was just curious about that baritone-sounding thing on the new song. He played a Jaguar VI with Tired Pony (which of course is sort of in between a bass and a baritone guitar), so I was thinking it might be that one that showed up here as well. Will try to locate a TP video of it.

Edit: found one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDEcUHVrE9g

Ah, okay, looks like a regular Jaguar to me, not a bass or baritone. But then I'm not that familiar with the whole Jaguar line, I'm more of a Jazzmaster fan (like Steve Wynn has). Does a Jaguar baritone exist? I wouldn't dare say yes or no!

I remember Scott on a Mapleglo Ric bass at the Islington gig.

LIsten to it, it's not a regular Jaguar. Actually, the one I referred to as "Jaguar VI" above is called "Fender VI":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fender_Bass_VI

Otherwise it's a Jaguar Baritone:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fender_Jag ... one_Custom

Or, it's neither and just a regular baritone...

Edit: Peter's guitar in the clip above has two pickups, so it's probably the Baritone Custom.

I've never been much into basses either, so that might be why this whole model passed by on me

I do agree that it looks more like the Jaguar Baritone Custom - the other one has a tremolo, not a stopbar btw!

Do you know when Peter was first spotted with that one? Did he just use it with Tired Pony?

Never saw him with it before TP, no. Many years back he played a Danelectro baritone with Tuatara though (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dfjv7nFjpCE) and I guess it's also a baritone of some sort we hear on All the Way to Reno.

Wow, you really know a lot about what Peter played over the years, eh! :D

I never followed Tuatara - never knew they even played live!
I never liked the looks of the Danelectro. At least I knew Peter had that one, but didn't know where or when he used it.
This thread keeps being informative! 8)

Tuatara played live as part of a weird 1997 tour that Peter did with "The Magnificent Seven vs. The United States", i.e. Tuatara, Minus 5 and Mark Eitzel w/band, all three acts made up of the same musicians, sort of. In that sense kinda reminiscent of the BBP/M5/Steve Wynn tours in later years, I guess.

As for Danelectros, the only one I've seen him use apart from the above one with Tuatara and a borrowed one at the after show party to the Carnegie Hall tribute in 2009 is the infamous purple 12-string he used throughout 2001. See here (with yours truly being a singing dork at 0:55, actually)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J20o40Z9M_E

I think it was never again seen after 2001. They are great 12-strings though, I used to have blue one of the same model.

The singing as a dork, or the Danelectro? I think it's funny people can see themselves on these live footage videos. I have a colleague who can be seen for 30 seconds singing along on a live DVD - half a minute. Imagine!

I don't mind Peter not using the Danelectros as I think they look like cheap toys. If there's guitars I dislike for looks it's Danelectros, never gotten the shapes!

Did Peter actually use the Danelectro on the album? In 2001 I was just a regular album buyer who tended to like R.E.M. and mostly only R.E.M. as favourite band. I had to work that day, so only in the afternoon I found out about the Cologne gig. Oh, how I wished I had been there in 2001, at least we got a bit on MTV (when it still was about music instead of about stupid teens). I read little to no music magazines, did browse online a bit. It;s the year I found Murmurs, although I didn;t join until 2003!
