Re: Angled instrument cable question
Right angle plugs are great at the instrument end and between effect boxes, but not much good elsewhere, where it's better to use straight plugs.
I would steer clear of coiled cables unless you use an active bass, because the coils add a lot of extra length, which is quite problematic for passive basses that lose signal fidelity (mostly treble) as the cable length extends.

Re: Angled instrument cable question
Yup, +1. Since I'm in the market for a new cable, I thought the angled would have a lower profile. Also I've noticed that if I have to stop messing around (playing) and either help the kids, help my wife, let the dogs out, or answer the door because I'm playing too loud for my neighbors, the straight jack tends to rest up on the guitar stand I have. Crackle and hum, amplified, stinks!!rickenbrother wrote:Another good reason to use a right angle plug in your Rick, is that it' s not in the way when you are sitting in a chair when playing.
Just checked out Bayou, too bad they don't do custom orders any more. i learned a lot from reading the site.

Just ordered a cable from Hosa with Neutrk ends. I'll demo it and rate it what it arrives. I ordered the pro series but I should gone a step up. Not too much more cash.

I've used the right angled Planet Waves plug with my Hofner 5001 and Ric 4003 with absolutely no problem

The Vox coiled cables are the BEST cables I have ever used, hands down! Over three years and 200+ gigs they are still going strong. One side is right-angled and the other is straight.

Re: Angled instrument cable question
I love angled connectors and use then on every guitar and bass I own except my Strat. I especially like and angled plug for my Jazz Basses and SG where the jack is on the top of the guitar or bass. Planet Waves even makes an angled plug that is a litlle bit longer and goes into the recessed jack of a Tele. The are also great for when you are sitting down and on a couch or futon and you don't want at straight plug getting in the way.

Re: Angled instrument cable question
I put angled ends on both ends of most every cable I've refurbished. I've used them on the end coming out of my amp without issue. I like them for guitar into pedalboard as well because the bent angle appears to minimize the possibility of the the cable getting stepped on and pulled from the stomp box out jack, preventing loss of signal. I usually wrap the cable under the pedalboard's corner as well to minimize this possibility, but when I forget, the angled end helps! The angled ends I use even fit my Strat, and do not seem to get in the way of the whammy bar as it comes around; they're the Switchcraft-type angle ends.

There is no reason to ever be bored.
...why yes, I suppose I do have a double bound guitar fetish...

Oooops, I forgot to follow up on the arrival of my Hosa cable with neutrix ends. It is a great cable and I've mothballed my old Whirlwinds! Not because the Whilwinds sucked, just because I love the 90 degree angle plug at the bass end. No more worrying about it getting in the way by protruding out too far. the 90 degree angle is more sleek and way less obtrusive.
Thanks for the advice.

Re: Angled instrument cable question
I use Snap Jack cables with the magnetic plug that stays in the bass. I have them with straight and right angles plugs. One really nice feature is that if I have to answer the door or move beyond the cables reach, I can just pop off the cable, and walk away without any of he usual electrical hum or popping.

Re: Angled instrument cable question
How strong is the magnet? Can it be popped off when playing if you whack it with your arm?
Re: Angled instrument cable question
I loop the cable through my strap like everyone else, and I haven't had a problem. They're neodymium magnets, so they're pretty strong. I had a custom wireless cable made using the end from one so I can switch out basses faster too. Just a great idea all around.
Re: Angled instrument cable question
I use the Fender Premium Platinum cables specifically for bass. They're pretty expensive, but you can really hear the difference. They have one straight and one angled end. I would highly recommend these to anyone.
Our lead guitarist was so impressed when he heard me use these, he went out and got the guitar version.
