Rick hardcase flightworthy?
Anyone have experience checking their Rick in the standard hard case that they come with? I've got a 2008 660/12. The case seems pretty solid to me, but I don't want to take any chances. Thanks.

Ever since I once watched helplessly from my window seat as baggage crew dudes FLUNG my hardshell guitar case up into the aircraft (even if it was a cheap stratocaster)....I have refused to check a guitar in anything other than a proper flight case.
Now carry-on is a different story. I'd say a gig bag carried on (which is a legal right according to TSA) is safer than checking a hard case.
Look, you spent a lot of money on your Rickenbacker. I think it deserves the extra $400 or so for a proper flight case if you are going to check it. Get a decent one (PM me if you want a great referral), and don't cheap out on a chinese case. Get one with a locking clasp, so no prying eyes can check out your goods.

+1, Collin can hook you up! After all, IIRC, he hooked up Jim Krause and Mike Snow, both of whom were (and still are!) extremely happy campers.
The most recent flights I took were both to Southern California for our forum's annual SCARF shows/fests of 2010 and 2011, and both times (mostly the first), my mother refused to let me take any instruments, simply because she didn't want to hear me complaining about an incident similar to what Collin said.

Yeah, get a flight case. They're worth the money. You'll be glad you did at the end of your travels.

OK, which flight case manufacturer makes a 4001/4003 ready case? I contacted Gator a while back and they were of no help. Does Anvil make one??

I have a custom Ric 4000 A&S case, that has seen many transatlantic journeys without a problem, not to mention domestic shipping when I have bought a bass from here or there. If you value your instrument, an ATA case is mandatory!Kopfjaeger wrote:OK, which flight case manufacturer makes a 4001/4003 ready case? I contacted Gator a while back and they were of no help.
