Re: 4005 EVER A ROMO ???
Thanks Ted. Yup, it's a real looker!
It is an Italian export...like all of the of the F hole basses that I know of...probably from the same batch of guitars sent there.
I'm thinking that the 4005's that were shipped to Rose Morris in England had the slash sound holes...otherwise
we'd be seeing them (f hole models) pop up there...no? Other than The Fad bass, which supposedly was acquired in England, I've
never heard of another in England. Also, I checked the register & all 4005's that are listed in England have the slash holes.

Another interesting bit, of all the '60s 4005's in the registry (whether overseas or not) that have the original silver cases, none are badged like mine is.

Imagine a 360 New Style with no binding, a dot neck and an F hole! Fireglo.
EDIT: I specified the type of 360 I was talking about.

Re: 4005 EVER A ROMO ???
This is one of those new style w/ f hole Italian export models that were converted from 12 to 6 strings. The headstock routes were filled with black plastic inserts. The serial # GB 754...February 1967. Not much is known about these enigmatic guitars. I believe that conventional theory goes something like this...the guitars were shipped at a time when 12 string demand was low. They probably sat unsold for a couple of years in the shop, then were converted to 6 strings by the Italian dealer. There are a handful known to exist. When the guitar left the Ric factory, it was fitted with an R tailpiece...during the conversion, an accent vibrato was added. All other examples that I've seen have the Accent vibrato. Also, there are no roller saddles...it has standard 6 string aluminum saddles. I read in another post that the guitar store that these instrument was supposedly sold from originally still exists, Dragani in Pescara, ItalyIvanMunoz wrote:Whats the story on that? I should mention that the 4005 is probably my favorite Ric bass. I play in a band with a guy who has a '67 in jetglow. It doesn't have these crazy f holes though. Such a sweet bass.
Re: 4005 EVER A ROMO ???
Its it a New Style (Rounded top) or is it a WB (Binding on both sides) If its a WB, then your friend has a seriously rare instrument. A new style is still awesome. There are only two 4005WB's in jetglo known. A '68 and a '67 (belonging to our own Jeff Scott)elisha wiesner wrote:I should mention that the 4005 is probably my favorite Ric bass. I bet those inlays look great on it too!

It's a new style. He's had it since the mid 80's and it's rad. Here's a pic from a show in Milwaukee last spring.
