I have found a JG 90 4003 with a Kahler?!? tremolo installed. I wonder how hard it would be to undo and rework....

Fromwhat I've seen, the installation of a Kahler requires the removal of a lot of wood fairly deep. I'd keep it on. It's cooler and more unique than a Bad *** bridge.

Actually, I think if you take it off, you will have a nice sized hole there, due to the area needed to attach the springs. Leave it!

Jaymi, if you are looking for a beat Rick bass, there is a 1975 on the 'bay with Duncans and a LOT of paint missing for the same price. Might wanna look into it.

I've got a kahler bass tremolo on one of my basses.. (not a Ric BTW). The action of the hinged/sprung part where the strings attach needs a tad more than 3/4's of an inch of wood cut out.. so there is a mighty hole in that Ric. It's a good looking bridge (mine is black) and is nice and heavy. But it is perhaps worse than the Ric bridge when it comes to adjustment.. all of the screws are tightly under the strings. For a bass I think you really need a roller nut to have any chance of staying in tune... which mine does not so I never use the tremolo. But it does look cool with the bar.. I also see lots of wear from the stress of the bar from when I did use it.. (which was not for long).. there seems to be some thread damage.. it did not take long for the bar to become too loose (drops down, does not stay put very well) Had they used a harder steel perhaps it could stand up to the pressure of the bass strings and springs.. but it appears to be some kind of brass. If you do use it, I recall that the springs are audible as they stretch.
