'04 360 set up
I tried searching for the information for a proper set up on a 360. What is the string hight suppose to be between the bridge pick up and the strings? I don't seem to be able to get enoughvolume out of the pickups and the action seems a little to high. the neck looks faily level with a slight relief. Any suggestions are welcome!

Re: '04 360 set up
I do it this way:
1. Adjustment of the neck nearly dead straight/ dead straight. Notice the advices of the manual how to do it. Never turn the truss rod screws more than 1/4 a day. Avoid turning back and forth on one day.
2. Waiting one or two days.
3. Taking care that the neck is the way I want. For inspection of the bow I do not use the edges of the frets, I look from the upright guitar's headstock to the bridge, that is more exactly because the edges of the frets are not totally equal. The neck has to be uninfluenced of any force from holding the guitar. I put the guitar with the strap bold at the bottom on a cushion on the floor and hold it carefully with one finger tip at the headstock.
4. Adjusting of the four screws for the height until the first string begins to buzz slightly when brought down against the first fret. Checking of all strings.
5. Is the first string buzzing, I turn the screws of its side at the bridge clockwise until it disappears. Then I add 1/4 turn more clockwise as a tolerance for temperature and humidity changes.
6. Adjusting of the little saddles of the bridge: I use a tuner and compare each string not brought down and brought down at the 12th fret. The indicator has perfectly to stay in tune. Notice: sometimes the screws move but not the saddles. Move carefully and watch the head of the hex screws. Maybe a lifting the string can avoid it, if necessary.
7. Concerning the pickups, it depends which one You have got. Mine (toasters) are adjusted 1-1,5mm below fret board level. To close to the strings can cause an unclean sound or touching of the strings. With my former high-gained 360 I had about 3-4mm space between pole pieces and strings.
After this procedure the strings are very close to the neck, about 2,5mm from the 12th fret. (I can not measure it exactly, but the strings are - buzz free - very LOW.)
Changing one of the three setup parameters, especially height and truss rods, can/ will influence the set up. That can make a further adjustment necessary. If, go from step 1. to step 6. - but change the truss rods now only 1/8 turn a day as a maximum.
Using the guitar under different climate conditions can make a very slight bow necessary.
Very important: Never do this with a guitar made before/ in 1984. That can cause serious damage to the neck!!!
If an original Rickenbacker care and maintenance manual is missing, here it is:

Gosh! To write a little "manual" is very difficult in a foreign language. I hope it is understandable.
