Updates

Post by crawlspacestefan »

Hey, guys!

I just thought I'd share some photos and quick stories.

First, my band performed on the local college radio station last week. It was a fun experience!

Secondly, we played a show last week after the radio thing that was really fun. I was getting a good feeling from the audience and got a bit carried away. I climbed up on the amp I was playing through and leaped off - in the air I hit the head of my bass on the ceiling, and immediately I starting worying about the guitar and not my landing. I hit the ground, twisted my ankle, and fell into a crumpled heap. I kept playing and pulled myself up to get to the microphone for the conclusion of the song and our set. It was a silly thing for me to do, but it was sort of fun. My ankle is still messed about, but more importantly, maybe, is that I chipped the finish on the back corner of one side of the headstock. It's just a cosmetic injury to the guitar, but it was a bit of a bummer. It's still pretty new (April 2011). But on the other hand, I think some of the coolest guitars are those with character. And, I've always said, I intend to baby the guitar everywhere, except that when I'm on stage, I'm on stage. You Know?

Cheers,

-s.

It's much cooler for a bass to get damaged like that than to just be smacking into things at home...

Man, they sure eat a lot of pizza at that radio station!

Sorry to hear about the ankle, I have it on first hand experience that it will probably haunt you for a very long time. :|

The bass, on the other hand, will survive with nary a complaint, 8)

Are those Studers in the background at the station?

Stefan, now it has it's first ding. No more worries about marring it. I remember my first Rick, a new one also, and when the first mark came to it (hit the seiling with it), it had me down for a short bit until I realized I didn't have to worry about putting the first mark on it. Play it to death!

Any day that one jumps off an amp during a gig is a very good day indeed!

I'm afraid my days of amp-jumping are long past, so I enjoy this vicariously.

Thanks for the reply and interest, guys!

Jeffrey, thanks for the sympathy! I actually broke this ankle a year and a half ago and it's never properly recovered. I think that is largely the reason for this injury happening (aside from, of course, amp jumping). Ankle's are a pain. Also, the pizza boxes were for some sort of promotion where they sent out promotional material to fans or something. Too bad, though! It'd be more fun if they just really liked pizza! Also, the station is called "CJSW" and from Calgary, Alberta. They have a website, etc.. My contact there didn't know anything about the tape recorders when I asked. Sorry!

John - you're actually quite right. I think I will have a lot less stress about the instrument now. I will probably be able to enjoy it a bit more without having to constantly worry about runing its pristine condition. And since I didn't buy the guitar to sell, it doesn't really matter if there is any depreciation.

I think my days of jumping off amps may be over now, too! But at least I got to do it one last time. That being said, I'm probably foolish enough to attempt it again...!

Welcome to the RRF,Stefan! I was influenced to jump around a lot by seeing Chris Squire in concert years ago,but quickly realized that a rick bass was a lot larger on me than it was on him! :)
Great looking FG bass, there! The B&W photo is really cool, too!
